WBAC Values

Gents when selling on wbac and the like, how can the seller be certain that finance has been settled? Feels ripe for a “trust me bro” scam from my ropey looking winning dealer and my PCP has 38 grand on it so don’t want to take any chances.
They do it in front of you usually plus they cannot legally sell it before its cleared so think about it logically are they really going to offer you something for your car then they cannot sell it to anyone else until the finance is cleared!

Also its a big issue if your car is worth more than £50K selling privately as most people will not have a bank account which allows them to transfer so much money to you in 1 day so your then into 2 transactions - do you trust someone enough if they have only given you part payment & do they trust you enough to take you at your word on releasing the car when the full amount has been paid!

Its almost impossible to sell any car over £50K privately without a massive amount of risk & trust between the buyer & seller nowadays.

Personally I would only use CarWOW or Motorway would avoid WBAC they lowball offers more than the other 2!

Some cars are quick flips, I would imagine that the Ibiza isn't hard to sell, just like any other smaller hatchback. How much did you pay for it, and how long ago?
Random follow up, I kept an eye on the dealer website for my car and by the time they'd sold it they almost certainly lost money.
I think the last price I seen it advertised for was about £500 over what they paid me so by the time they'd paid CarWow fees/the guy to pick it up and time spent prepping it (although it was pretty much ready to go on the forecourt) they can't have made more than pocket change on it.

Does anyone have any recent experience with Motorway and/or Carwow? I’ve got our Mini Cooper S on Autotrader, but the initial valuation that these places are offering is very enticing.

I know they’ll knock me down once I upload photos, but does anyone know if they’re paying considerably more than WBAC?

Carwow was good for us back in September 2024. Got over the listed price. Dealer came and took the car away after a test drive.
They sold it for a loss though months later, but that's on them!

It's just dealers on the platform mate, but it should be better than WBAC because those cars go to auction, who those same dealers would be buying from. So you're cutting out the middleman and get a bit extra in theory

That’s good to hear (for you) :)

Thanks. I’ll upload the photos they’re looking for tomorrow and see how it goes.

Sold my last car on Carwow last summer, no problems got around what they predicted. No bartering on pickup but then it was only just over 12 months old and the only issue was a scratch on one alloy which I provided pictures of in the listing.

Tried Motorway to sell the car I had previous to that and the only bids I got were around 50% lower than their initial valuation, which is where these 2 differ from WBAC.

The offer you get from WBAC will almost certainly be lower but as long as you've listed everything when getting your quote is pretty much bang on what you'll get, Carwow/Motorway/others like them just put your car into an auction and it all comes down to the buyers on the day and then you might wait a week for them to come and pick it up and try and knock you down some more.
At least with WBAC you can generally take it down to one of their huts straight away and get your answer.

If I get what they predict, it’ll make a private sale a complete waste of time! I know I won’t though because there are 2 imperfections on the exterior.

I assume I can tell them about those problems when I submit the car.

Yep they ask you to take pictures of any imperfections and list them out as well. It's all guided through their app, then IIRC they ask you to call them to confirm everything as well (I can't remember if that was Motorway/Carwow or both).

Nice one, thanks! I’ve submitted to both platforms, and on the phone with Motorway now to complete the listing.

Fingers crossed. Flying to the US on Sunday so I need this sorted out ASAP because I’ve already found the replacement car I want.

The auctions have finished so here are the results in case it helps someone else:

2016 Mini Cooper S 2.0 5 door (F55) manual
  • Carwow's guide price was £8050. Highest bid was £8053
  • Motorway's guide price was £8268. Highest bid was £7721
  • WBAC offered £6967
  • Autotrader's private sale guide price was £8900
Not bad for a car we've owned for 9 years and paid £17k for!

I've accepted Carwow's offer since I only got one serious enquiry on Autotrader and I need it gone ASAP.
