Hey!

WD Raptor 150GB SATAI 16MB

vs

WD SE 250GB SATAII 16MB

Im guessing that Raptor will win, but what is the real performance difference?

Size is a lot more, price is a lot more, but is the performance worth it for the price...

Personaly if i had the cash id buy 2 of them and run them in Raid-0 but i dont so i would like to know the performance if possible?

The closest you will get to a raptor is with a Seagate 7200.10 series drive. They use new technology called perpendicular recording (as opposed to longtitudinal). No other 7200rpm drive can come close. In all honesty, raptors are noticeably faster in my view (having owned a fair few) but a good RAID of smaller drives is a very good alternative.

Reading your other post has lead me to possibly do what i origionaly wanted to do...

windows + files + programs - 250gb wd 16mb

games - wd 150 raptor

photoshop + 3d apps cache - 80gb sata 2 wd (£30odd-ish)

recon this would ease the strain on each drive (as raptor can concentrate on games, windows can fart about with 250gb and photoshop can use the 80gb as ram)

cheers!
