Hi

I've recently bought a new drive with secure connect cables. I've noticed that the connector goes onto the power connector on the drive as well. Does the cable provide the drive with power or does the old style 4 pin connector have to be plugged in as well?

Hi Cheers for the reply

The cable actually covers both the SATA power connector and the actual sata connector on the drive at the same time while only having a sata cable going into the motherboard and no connection to the PSU? there is a 4-pin connector on the drive as well but I'm not sure wether I should plug this in as well?

As I said, you'll need to power the drive somehow, either with a SATA power lead or a Molex one not both. The WD cable does not supply power but I'm guessing that you can plug a SATA power connector into the back of it next to where the data cable comes out.

No - The Sureconnect uses the SATA power connector to give you that stronger connection.
You'll notice that the WD HD has both a SATA and standard power connector on the back.
If you're using the Sureconnect adaptor then it won't be able to get any power via the SATA power connector, so you'll need to attach the standard power connector.

If you use standard SATA cables with the WD HD's then you can use either the SATA or Standard power connector to feed the unit with some juice.
