"we are calling about a problem your reported...

My mum trolls all sales people and scammers like this all the time, it's quite scary really, i often wonder what she would be like if she had the confidence to learn to use a computer

I can't see it
It could look like a windows logo
What's a windows logo?
and so on ......................................

Eventually (after taking 10 minutes to find the address bar) -
Type this into your address bar (he then proceeds to read an address out) press enter - what do you see?
It is google telling me all about the word 'this'
But I asked you to type the address I read out
No, you said type this into the address bar
and so on for 45 minutes (I was having a boring day).

It would be very interesting if their web site got hacked or shut down and their computers got viruses wouldn't it? It would be vigilante justice but oh so much pleasure can be had by contacting them and asking if they want their web site or PC fixed!

Only ever had one of these call and I laughed and hung up :( Wish they would call back one day. (im bored)

play along.

This tbh...

If you've got some free time then just waste a bit of theirs - pretend you are following their instructions etc.. ask them to repeat stuff, pretend to be a bit deaf, half way through state something like 'ah - do I need my internet plugged in...' just wind up these oxygen thieves.

Ditto to unwanted sales calls, marketing calls etc..

I quite like that.

Easier just to say "let me pass you onto my IT manager"

I doubt they want to hang around then.

'hello sir we are calling about the virus you have on your pc'

You are aware that i am a microsoft certified IT professional?

Yeh I know
*hangs head in shame*
:(

Problem was they wanted me to read out what was on the screen at every right click, but I was standing in a relatives kitchen and not actually sitting in front of their PC, so I had to mumble a lot.

This is pretty much the only way to get back at these people, waste their phone bill, waste their time and get up their nose by making a fool of them.

I don't mean to be pedantic (well actually I do) but working in IT does not mean that you are always aware of a virus on your computer.
If I was a scammer your IT comments would go over my head.

By doing a remote connection, aren't they putting themselves at risk as well.

A vm honeytrap would be a great idea, slam them with a bunch of viruses :D

Would love to have a PC that had a virus on it that, as soon as it connected to them it uploaded something nasty.

"Remote desktop connection established"....
I don't think it's me who has the virus matey.. *sniggers*

My mate just told me about one he did a few months ago.
Exactly the same call saying they had detected a virus on his computer so he told them to hold on for a minute.
He waited a bit then went outside and started the car up, kept revving now and then and peeped the horn while shouting at imaginary drivers.
The bloke asked him what he was doing and he said he was driving to his daughters because he had lent it to her.
The bloke asked how far away she lived and my mate said about 1 hour but she needs to sort this virus out right now :D
