The last 25yrs have severally lacked a hilarious sex comedy. At best we could say Superbad or similar.

I say this as I'm watching AP2 and I haven't laughed so hard at any movie in years.

What's happened to comedy these days.

Similar with Cruel Intentions - the TV show was a pale imitation, making movies like that just isn't on the agenda these days.

Comedy Movies used to be created by funny people. Upcoming comedians, SNL legends like Belushi, myers, carvey, Murphy etc.

Now we lack decent funny people trying to break into the mainstream. Instead they just create some YouTube content and get an audience on their own.

They don't need to fight for the backing of studios etc.

No hunger any more.

Possible that studios are too afraid to back content for which the professionally outraged might have a sook and a cry about.
Even if it gets made, people don't go to the movies anymore for films like this, often not even knowing they exist.

If people watched these fms and they made money there would be a company that funded and made them.

Fair point. It really feels that unless something makes a rip-roaring fortune and has opportunity to have spin-off merch and all that, then it's a no go-er.

I'm not surprised there is less draw to the cinema now ... a lot of it feels so same-y.

Given how old it is. They could make American Pie : The parents.. They could be as old as the dad was by now and have their own kids in school. Would be brilliant and would likely attract a big audience.

I saw that movie in the cinema with my girlfriend at the time.

Sarah Michelle Gellar was so hot back then, it's the only reason I went to see it.

Nobody? Ok. I'll do it.

That's not what your wife says

Ahem, sorry, anyway. I can't say I really remember American Pie as being anything particular special.

He stuck his forum friendly appendage in a pie that's all I seem to recall.

Give it a go again including the 2nd. It has lots of laughs. More so than a film I can think of recently. Tbh even I was surprised when I rewatched it. Maybe because we had lot of decent comedies at the turn of the century. I'd forgotten.

I remember being a tiny kid a bit too young to understand girls and sex, and my older brother owned the VHS of this movie. Every time I borrowed this movie from him it always seemed to be at the same scene of Sarah Michelle and the other girl kissing.

I never found out why

Can't see it happening as the saying goes 'they were a product of their time' half of the jokes would offend someone these days and cause an outrage online, plus any after the original trilogy were pale imitations of the them and didn't have the same feel / style that made them work.

Are you insane?

The world is so PC now, an attempt at a new American pie style movie will be the most unfunny Gen Z woke fest ever

The main character would probably be a black transgender dwarf who gets bullied for supporting Palestine and by the end comes up out the closet to be accepted by their diverse circle of immigrant friends

I think 21 Jump Street, which is hilarious, hit the spot pretty well but I can’t recall much since then. A lot of the dialogue was masterful, and it dealt a lot with PC standards changing over time. One of my favourite bits (paraphrasing):

*punches teenager*
“Turn that gay music off!”
“You punched me because I’m gay?!?”
“Wow I can’t believe you punched him because he was gay.”
“Oh… no… I mean, I punched him… and he later turned out to be gay.”
“I WAS GAY WHEN YOU PUNCHED ME

I do miss the silly humour in those 2000s era films, but at the same time there is a lot in those films that IS outdated, mainly the objectification of women.

I mean, most obviously, setting up a webcam of a girl in a bedroom and sharing it etc… but oh it’s ok she’s foreign so that’s fine :o

^ In hindsight, that’s not very cool, even though we’re actually supposed to be laughing at the guy. So I don’t think it would be fair to suggest that ‘nothing’ in them was outdated. But yeah I’m on board with bringing back more of these ‘good time’ films.

Sex drive is alright, although I have a crush on Amanda crew. The comedy is alright

Seth Green is quite funny as the Armish guy
