Why does everyone need to know their heart rate so on demand, or how many steps they've taken in a day?

Steps can be useful if you're trying to keep active/burn calories.

Heart rate on demand isn't that useful unless you're exercising, as you want to keep your heart rate in a specific 'zone' to achieve an optimum workout.

Unless I can use it for calls/sat nav/browsing/music etc. I don't feel the need personally, or a reason to call them "smart".

Health purposes? They will play a big part in people losing weight/getting fitter. I'm behind a desk for 8 hours a day so it certainly kicked me up the backside to get moving more. People set themselves goals to hit so many steps a day, the watch helps you with this.

Oh I get you, it's for the amateur exercise market.

Still, they'll be awesome when they can do proper things yet look like a Patek :) wake me up then...

Well I'm not sure if it would be classed as amateur, footballers all wear this type of kit just as a bra type accessory rather than on their wrist. Still tracking their heart rate, distance ran via GPS etc.

I wear mine for football and it pushes me harder to run more. They're great.

I've never ever heard of this in practice before in or outside of the gym. The only times I've seen people read their heartrate off a sensor on their phone etc is when just comparing against a mate on how relaxed they are etc or just out of idle boredom/curiosity. You also don't need a device to measure your heart rate either.

I know quite a few ppl that use the watch at a glance to keep an eye on HR when running/cycling etc to stay below a set rate. Breadcrumb trails and other features very useful on these watches if not on a road/path to keep on course. The plus version of the one I've bought allows locally stored music so can go running without having to take the every increasing sized phones out with them connect bluetooth earphones

Just bought a Garmin 245 GPS watch to help with my running. Quite liking strava at the moment too and seeing friends progress, being able to comment etc. Is a nice touch.

ended up getting a fenix 5s off the bay at a reduced price (new unboxed). I can only assume due to the recent launch of the fenix 6 range

Very happy with it so far, and already managed to annoy the misses by setting up Live Track so she gets alerts of my route and location when i go out on the bike. Useful if I ever go missing or get really drunk and need her to come get me - just turn on Live Track and wait for the email to land :D

It is definitely loaded with features, going to have to watch a few tutorials I think to get up to speed quickly. Interesting to see my avg sleep per night since I got the watch is less than 4hrs, knew i didn't sleep much since been in and out of hospital last year but didn't think it was that bad

I still have an original Huawei watch, been going for a good few years now. I don't particularly use it during exercise or for any of the fitness logging. The step counter tells me when I've passed my goal, but i don't take much notice of that. It is handy for changing songs with the media controls while working out, but I don't use it much beyond that.

The main reason I bought it was just to have the notifications on my wrist. That was always an issue for me as I can never feel my phone vibrate in my pocket and always helps to have a quick glance without having to get your phone out on a packed train for example.

I don't think i'd want to go without some form of smartwatch, i really could lose a lot of the features and wouldn't mind, but any lower budget watch completely loses the design, I would want a rounded watch without a big bezel that people wouldn't assume is a smartwatch from first glance. I'm always on the look out for a new one, but none have really fit the bill and android wear doesn't seem like it's moving forward all that quickly, so I'm in no rush.

Understandable, why I stayed with Fitbit for so long. In the end I got sick of their poorly made products. Their customer service is great, happily swap out broken goods but I went through 3 Surge's in 12 months, it was silly.

I have a Huawei GT watch, I love it, it does exactly what I need and battery lasts just short of two weeks and that is with a lot of use of the GPS. I really recommend it and would definitely look at the next one when it's out.

Same. kept convincing myself the'd sort the rubbish phone apps out. In the end I sacked it off for a Garmin and cant work out why I didn't do it years ago :-(

I wear a Huawei Watch GT normally which replaced a Xiaomi Mi Band 3 before it. Generally find it ok but I suspect it reads my step count higher than the Mi Band did.

When I got it I looked at various smart watches and in the end decided on the Huawei. I did strongly consider Samsung's offering but in the end I thought what would I actually use in terms of functionality. The GT gives me notifications, fitness tracking in a device which has a 2 week battery life. That was one of the main things that swung it as I don't have to charge it every day or every two days.
