What specifically do you use your webspace for number 54743? It seems an inefficient use of funds if you are paying for webspace when free hosting services would suffice.

Free "webspace" would not suffice (in my opinion [based on limited experience]).

I need to be able to have PHP 4+ running on the server, I need MySQL databases, I need a mail server facility (and preferably some form of web mail client). I also need FTP access, (and I like to have full control of what I put on the "webspace" within the law).

I will decide what is "inefficient use of funds" for myself. (From information gathered on forums, I expect you have an extremely limited idea of what I need [or possibly {in other terms, a relatively high probability} will need] the "webspace" for [and thus I do not value your post {in this case}]).

I was just asking. You said you were using it for general hosting so I assumed that would mean you didn't need PHP support and the like. No need to get arsey.

You're definitely taking the urine now. For a time it was slightly bad. Now that everyone picks on you for it, you have stepped up a gear and turned the nob to "cringeworthy".

You notice my complete lack of bracket usage? It is possible to complete a sentence without one! Shock horror!

To answer your question though, I use Hostmonster. A mere $5.95 (£3) per month and you get a plethora of features. Some of which include an obscene amount of data storage and transfer, lorry load of email and ftp accounts, as many databases you can shake a big stick at and you get a free domain as a rather nice cherry.

Well worth a look.

I mentioned PHP support in this thread (perhaps it was the great mass of bad posts which obscured this from your view [for this I cannot blame you]).

(I thought you were trying to make me look stupid [as if I had not considered the "free webspace" already]).

I apologise if this was not your intention (as I find [in general] that your posts are much better than average).

Oh yeah I've seen that now. My bad.

And no number 54743, it was not my intention to make you look stupid.

No. I now have most of my (meaningful) discussions on a different forum (I have mentioned the name before); this is merely because I cannot seem to have a serious discussion on this forum ("Overclockers UK") due to people arguing with me.

If I could stop, I would. I have had my real life effected (being "prank called" multiple times [by members of this forum]), I don't want that to happen. (Admittedly, people on the other forum post bad things also, but it is not as bad as on these forums [not that I dislike these forums {"Overclockers UK"}]).

Angus Higgins

Of course you can stop. Once you have written a post, before hitting submit, go through and remove all the extra guff. I mean why do you feel the need to clarify "these forums" with {Overclockers UK} or similar? A monkey would know what "these forums" refers to, were such a literate primate found of course :p

I understand why you do it, sort of. But you can at least try!

As for people harrassing and abusing you, that's something I don't condone at all. Your posting style is slightly annoying, but you'd have to be pretty sad to get so wound up to prank call you over it!

The problem is that I cannot. If I do not believe my post is clear enough (this doesn't necessarily mean many brackets [but often does]) I would find it difficult to post it (and even more difficult not to edit it). I would feel physically ill if I made a bad post (I believe).

Inaccuracy is one source of incorrectness (I apologise for using this awful word), and incorrectness (again I offer apologies for this word) is one (major) cause of tendance from perfection.

argh. please make it stop.

seriously angus, you can use that crap to impress the GD crowd if you want. it's something for them to laugh at. something to make you stick out from the masses. i guess you'd rather be an idiot that everyone knows rather than be anonymous. that's fine. but please keep it out of the other forum sections. thanks. :)

Incorrect. It is a system I used in most typed-communication (including several Internet forums, "Personal Messages", and e-mail [there are more]).

I don't mind whether I am known (or unknown [evidently]), I like to gather information.

If you don't feel your posts are clear enough, then yes, add more detail. This doesn't require the use of brackets though.

Most, if not all of your posts would read exactly the same without the brackets, with maybe the odd comma, full stop or extra word instead of an opening bracket. Also, to sound less machine-like you can use "It's" instead of "It is" every single time ;)

Exactly the same message, without everyone mocking you. Unless you just like the attention.

Mick.

You are wasting your time. This conversation has been had a hundred times. He seems to have a pathological fear of not being understood. Seems his cuddly toy or favourite blanket in such situations is a gross misuse of brackets.

Which is utterly bizarre, given that his messages are infinitely less intelligible with that amount of brackets in them than they would be if he just typed properly.

Sounds like he has a pretty extreme form of OCD. I don't suppose anyone will be able to convince him to write normally.

Angus, you should go to a doctor and get officially diagnosed. Otherwise you might find yourself getting marked down in exams and assignments at university and possibly A-level. I don't think lecturers will like reading anything not written in proper english, but if you have an officially diagnosed medical condition then they will be lenient. Sorry to bring this up here, I know it's not really the right place, but I thought you might find this advice useful.

Do you actually think your posts are clearer and more readable like that? Or is it just a useless gimmick?

Thing is his bracket use is getting worse, either he has something like OCD or is doing it for attention.

Either way its annoying and completely counter to his claims of trying to maintain clarity in his posts.
