Wedding Drinks

To the OP. One of each with back up bottles if needed/asked for is fair enough assuming you have enough money in the budget for it?

I remember my mates wedding where there was 4 of each on each table of 10 people plus a free bar. It wasn;t pretty and the bar bill for 60 people came to almost £2000 as well.

At the end of our speeches, my dad got up and announced impromptu that the bar was now free for the rest of the night (I think it was the booze talking). Everyone cheered and clapped, and it was a great gesture, but a) it must have cost an absolute fortune and b) several of my friends were so drunk by the end of the evening that the bar staff refused to serve them.

If it's for breakfast then I'd have a crate of single malt ready - and none of this cereal/yoghurt/croissants rubbish - full scotch breafast is needed!

What we did, was issue self-made coupons in the invites, and told everyone to pick any 1 drink they'd like.

We paid the bar bill at the end and it was surprisingly low (£450~).

Everyone gets a drink they'd like instead of a choice of crap, crapper and ****

Seriously? Are there really so many people in this thread who don;t realise that a "Wedding Breakfast" is not at breakfast? It's just what you call the reception after a wedding so most are late afternoon.

I totally knew that.

:confused::o:D

Didn't really. Not been to many weddings but thx4theinfo.jpg

I like the idea of everyone ordering what the like, I'll have to speak to the venue to see if they can do this without too much delay. Don't want the first table getting drinks and the last having to wait 30 minutes.

2 bottles of wine between 8 people doesn't seem much. You only get 3 or 4 glasses per bottle. You should just have jugs of tap water, paying for bottled water is pretty mad. Easy way to save money, and no one will think less of you.

Didn't know that. Though, I imagine at my wedding (and indeed the one I'm going to in a few months) there is certainly going to be drinking done in the morning!

Its what its known as and what most brides call it. Its rare to hear a Groom or anyone else of XY denomination call it by its official title though.

Count on a bottle of wine per head over the whole course of the meal. Prob half white half red. Shift down for old fogies, religious types and kids and up for tables of 20 somethings who are just waiting for the speeches to be over so they can tap the bridesmaids.

I think we put a bottle of red and a bottle of white on each table of 8-10 and then had one of each on standby if anyone asked for it. Since mose people don't ask for it we didn't have to pay for the unused bottles which otherwise would have been opened just because they were on the table.

We also just had jugs of water instead of bottles.

If you are still unsure about the bar for the evening then we gave everyone 2 tokens in the favours bag which would each get them a drink/shot at the bar. If you wanted a double then it cost you two tokens and after that you paid yourself. Everyone liked the fact that they got a couple of freebies but also respected the fact that we were not there to pay for them to get wrecked. The bar bill for 130 odd came to just under £600 so about £4.60 per head so evidently some people didn't even bother using the tokens. Fine by me.

Long gone are the days when the bar should be free.

Excellent idea with the tokens!

Good point with the wine - 1 bottle of each will give enough for a small glass of each. Typically not everyone drinks on each table anyway and there's always a bit of bottle trading going on for those who want to swap red/white.

Not only that, there are going to be people who bring a drink from the bar, soft drinks etc. If you know there is a table with a particularly boozy bunch you can always give them more.

One of each per table?!

I'd allow four bottles of Red and four bottles of White per table. But only put one of each on the tables to start with, replacing them as & when they're needed. Oh and Rose, don't forget the Rose!

One top tip though from one I went to recently: If you're not having free drinks, and it's only a pay bar, that's fine... but let the guests know. They'll be rather annoyed when they turn up without any cash and find a pay bar!

Honestly it would NEVER cross my mind not to take cash to a wedding. Anyone expecting a free bar deserves to not drink all night.

:D

Ok I'm a tard. Never knew that...

Last wedding I went to we were all staying in a hotel so there was a breakfast!

LOL its the first meal the married couple have together as a unit hence breakfast ;)

If you are having the reception in a hotel where you are also staying the night, why do you just make several trips back to your room to 'get something'.

;)

If you can afford it, go for it. My fiancée and I are talking about putting on a welcome drink, and putting a bottle of rosé on each table, but more can be bought from the caterers.

I'm trying to fund a wedding, house move, and debt payments, so money's tight :)

Hmm we had to dispose of the contraband the next morning :o

I didn't. In fact, during the reception I mislaid half a bottle of red wine I'd brought down with me. One of the staff came over and said 'It's over there. Don't worry, I know what the prices are like...'. :D
