Wednesday Addams - Netflix Series

Been watching it and honestly it's not that bad, Jenna Ortega is better than I was expecting as Wednesday. Had some nice touches which pay homage to the older series for those that remember them.

Weak part... Gomez, Morticia and Pugsley, they just don't feel right, plus the acting from Catherine Zeta Jones is really bad imo. Admittedly I grew up with the original tv series and enjoyed the films, both while distinctly different had much better representations of Gomez and Morticia imo.

Christina Ricci seems to be turning into Dawn French...

I will say it's 'refreshing' for a Netflix show to not be excessively 'inclusive' or have an overtly obvious 'agenda' like their shows often end up being for this age demographic, that trend had been really putting me off netflix shows.... might be linked to their recent 'rejection of woke' in October but who knows...

Yeah agree with most of that - somewhat ironically it lacks originality in its main story - but kind of wish they'd put a little more of the dark wit from Adult Wednesday into it. Ultimately it isn't supposed to be Addams Family though it is a show about Wednesday the other original characters are background material really.

I laughed at "is he.... like your pet??" - It def has the lines down nicely but yeah I agree Morticia, Gomez and Pugs are weakly acted characters so far. Didn't even pay attention to who was playing Morticia so had no idea it was CZJ playing the role.

Watched this over the weekend, was decent for a modern retelling and tried to do it's own thing without stepping on the toes of the originals. I do think Morticia and Gomez weren't cast right especially with how well the film cast played the roles.

I watched it over the last few days and quite enjoyed it, I love the casting for Wednesday and her roommate made me smile (especially as Wednesday seems to be trying to not offend/upset her too much) and such an opposite .
I'm hoping that in season 2 we'll see more of the other family members and they'll actually get more screen time/fleshed out, I was starting to like Morticia and Gomez as I got used to them being played slightly differently (and in Gomez's case very different look to the film and old tv series*), but they weren't really shown enough to build on much.

*But far closer in looks to the original comics.

and some of the animated versions.

Finished watching it and honestly I'd worked out the ending by the end of the second episode, I was hoping for some sort of misdirection but sadly no.
IMO Enid (the colourful girl) is kind of the tradition of adding in at least one 'colourful' person in the black and white world of the addams family, luckily the dynamic between Enid and Wednesday was well done.

Jenna is great, and stylistically it's very nice. Had a few chuckles out of it, especially the modern tweaks, but it seems very much aimed at the CW young adult teen crowd, and made to be a family friendly watch.

Would have loved a more adult version version, especially considering the lead is great, and Tim Burton's input and style shines through.

Seems like they hit the mark considering that's what they were aiming for though.

The music is decent too.

Still trying to make my mind up on this.

On episode 3.

Jenna has nailed Wednesday tho

It was well written mostly if a bit predictable with some character development well above many shows of late, probably not quite the material some of us were wanting - though we weren't really the target audience.

My wife was watching this, missed most of it, it was a bit Buffy the Vampire Slayer but the cinematography was pretty impressive to be fair. Thought CZJ nailed Mortitia in the scenes I saw.

Sadly it's being attacked by small group of toxic fans on the Left who are calling out the series (and Burton in particular) for racism after making two black characters into bullies and a black person into the owner of a Pilgrim Fair, a source of "coloniser celebration" apparently  -

Honestly, why do you let yourself get so upset by that stuff? 10 random people on twitter is not worth writing stories over.

Im not even through the series but at the halfway point the black "bully" doesn't seem like she is a bully really at all, just a bit keen to keep her position as the top girl at the school
