Week in New York alone - good idea?

Being of Ukrainian descent, I'd say go go go! Kiev, Lviv, Chernobyl, go on a cart with a horse through the woodlands, great time! :D Pop into Poland as well, have a good time in Krakow!

Isn't that what Goering said to Hitler?!?

I've found quote a few so far, there are loads around Central Park that are around $25 a night.

Central Park isn't all that central in terms of the things to do downtown. Its nothing more than a few stops on the metro though so its still worth it if you can get a good price on the hostel.

I had 5 days in NYC and still could have filled another 5 days with the list of things i'd like to see.

Loads of area's each with lots to see and do.

I'd love to go back one day.

Don't really care for asia to be honest, has never interested me.

Oddly enough I am also considering The Ukraine, Kiev specificaly.
I wouldnt go to the Ukraine at the moment what with the outbreak of Californian Flu, which is apparently a lot worse than the "dreaded" Swine Flu :D

I cant decide between NY or California/Vegas. Both very different but i'd love to visit both. Not sure i'd be brave enough to go alone though, not great at meeting new people.

I've spent a week in NY by myself before it was great fun. Met some great people, had lots of fun and saw NY in my own pace and time. Though I had been several times before, it's one of those cities you can just lose yourself in and spend a day wondering around and being drawn in. Very easy to spend a week there by yourself - if you're single it's also fun for a bit of debauchery if you want, lots of cool bars and clubs but also places to just hang out and watch the world go by. 1 week goes by so quick, it's such a big place with so much to see and do. It's a cracking city - one of my favourite places in the world (in terms of cities and "Western" world).

i personally can't stand new york, but blame cabin fever, world of warcraft and a clicky job

loved the first few weeks i was there it was the additonal year and a bit I resented massively

definitely a place that's great to visit not to live, for me anyway :)
