Heh heh , cheers lads.
I enjoy posting my woes on here , 99% of the posters are all knowlegable and its the most civilised forum Ive ever looked at.
Most football forums and in particular the Newcastle forum I post on are savage , this makes a refreshing change here now and again.
Ive read abit about the Shearer record and my bigest take on it is the sadness that surounds it all.
Milburn won 3 FA cups in his time here while the only achievement Al can hang onto is this record. Im biased because of the ten years Ive spent watching the great man but he deserved to win much more than he has and its a measure of the character of him that he didnt bugger off to Man Utd when he had the chance (3 times I believe).
It would have been so easy for him to "do a Teddy" win a boat load of trophys then come back and see out his career.
In general wartime stats arent accounted for and I'd be happy to go along with that.
They were both great players and servants of the club and both deserve the accolades they get.
Its harder to score in modern day football and Shearer has played in , on the whole , poor sides.
He has also missed the best part of 2 seasons through injury.
Im hoping Wor Jackie was watching from the great Geordie boozer in the sky on saturday afternoon , supping a bottle of broon with a tear in his eye.
In context , I think Henry's record is far more impressive than Shearers but no real big deal was made of it because of his trophy wins and in general (this year aside) I could have scored goals in Arsenals side.
As for the managers job?
No thanks , Im going for the England one
