Weekend football *Spoilers!*

To a point yes he is, couldn't believe he was rated at £20M coming into Euro04, after that interest in him just vanished!don't really know where all the hype come from. He undoubtedly does have some skill, and his finishing looked spot on tonight.

Unlucky Barca, but Et'o will be coming hope sooner and Ronaldinho too. Also the young Messi looking fantastic too, Rijkaard is not playing him too much, he is a revelation, going to be awesome for Argentina. I Abosolutely love watching him play.

Wasn't Messi injured tonight? I saw some comments by a Seville/Arsenal fan who was commenting on Torres saying he can't believe any English sides want him, and he's poor week in week out.

You have to hand it to Benitez and his comments.....because he's successfully deflecting attention away from the fact that when Reina was sent off Liverpool were well beaten, 2-0 down with ten minutes to go (could have been 4-0), had'nt managed to make Cech make a save until midway through the second half and were looking to the forehead of Peter Crouch as their main weapon.....I'd be asking him why he's spent millions on strikers that score less than his rivals midfielders.....

Yeah he wasn't playing tonight. Last few performances of his were brilliant, getting some goals too. Every time he's got the ball the ball just sticks to his feet, combine that with pace and he is a full package. Want to see more him but Rijkaard is doing the right thing and coaching him in, Will be Argentina's secret weapon i think. We all know what Rooney can do, and cater for him, not A lot of people will be counting on Messi, and he will produce in the WC, cant wait.

Why, they didnt did they?

All i remember him having to do was save Gerrards shot and even that wasn't exactly troublesome for him

Anyone that says Cech didnt have to make a save until midway through the second half was obviously watching a different game.

I'm sorry....I've only watched the match twice....once at the ground and once on the highlights on MOTD.....I remember 2 saves that Cech made....the drive from Gerrard and a looping header he saved comfortably....both in the second half....and only one of which MOTD bothered to show as a highlight...Sky Sports has only 2 Liverpool shots as on target....but what the hey....

ps...Is Benitez morphing into 'Fat Bob'?

We played well but every time we play well against the big boys we loss so i would rather have Liverpool playing poor a win the game like Chelsea do!

Just seen the Robben incident and that was taking the mick. Reina shouldn't of touched his face but what was Robben playing at? I've seen much worse things not even get yellows. This kind of thing has to be clamped down and even though it happens at Arsenal I'd like to see some hefty fines and suspensions handed out to those caught on camera play acting. You would be suprised how many players would think twice before trying to fake an injury if that was to happen.

Really enjoyed Saturdays game at St James.

I cant believe its the same Newcastle side that has continually bored and frustrated the paying public.
They played with tremendous passion and belief.

It was a novel team selection , players playing in their proper positions and with a midfield 4 employing 2 wingers and 2 central midfielders - this 4-4-2 malarky might just catch on.
Hardly rocket science but a strategy that has so obviously been overlooked by Souness.
Ameobi had his best game since destroying the mackems , Babbayaro looked like a premier league fullback , the central defensive partnership of the tyneside chuckle brothers looked calm and assured , Man of the match Scot Parker was just , well , Scot Parker , both wingers streamed crosses into the box and got white paint on their boots for a change and not once did a defender lob the ball up to Shearer , bypassing the midfield , as a solution to being completely devoid of any ideas.

It was obvious from the start that every man , woman and child in that ground , whether on the pitch or of it , had been visibly lifted by the departure of Newcastles worst manager since Bill Mcgarry and this was reflected in the performance of the team and the crowd.

Oh , and Shearer scored.
A proper goal , from a proper centre forward , Gallowgate end in a proper stadium.
Thats the price on the ticket.

I have ran out of superlatives to describe this great , great man.
The greatest player this fine region has ever produced , the greatest living Geordie , harder than a Mr T and Chuck Norris offspring , candidate for the next Prime Minister of Great Britain and the one person I wouldnt mind my girlfriend cheating on me with , I'd even hand him a towel when he had finished.
(One or all of the above may not be true , but thats the price on the ticket)

Yes we were playing Pompey , yes they were absolutely gash , yes Im getting carried away faster than an unattended virgin at a viking invasion but for the first time in 18 months I came out of the ground feeling like we had won the FA cup.
The team and the crowd have woken up from our footballing nightmare , there is a sense of excitement in the air , the gloom has been lifted and the feel good factor is returning.

I love it , I really love it.

Poor performance from the reds and it just goes to show the inability we have in coverting chances. Crespo was excellent all game and give him a half chance and he just punishes you. Crouch isnt the answer to our "15 goals a season man" :(

I like the sound of that :)
I watched the highlights and thought that we actually looked like a Premiership side for once and your official seal of approval is well recieved :D

I'd just like to say to Vandle that reading his posts about his frustration with his teams performance/tactics/situation has been (for want of a better word) fascinating - it's too easy to laugh at another teams misfortune (this does not mean I never will) but reading informed comment on the situation from someone who not only has a passion but intelligence and an ability to see the problem from different levels (not just "my POV, right or wrong, like it or lump it").....has been both refreshing and a lesson in frustration.....(love in mode ends here)
PS - whats your take on the issue of Milburns war time goals viz Shearer/record?
