Weekend Football Thread 21-23 *spoilers*

Surely that has got to be without. (Barcelona, Burnley, Liverpool at back end of last season and this season all did not include him)

People keep saying he is the most improved player, he is one of the best DM's in Europe - period and has been for the last year and a half.

I hear people rave on about Mascherano but as good as he is defensively, against the weak teams when Liverpool have the ball he becomes a virtual spectator. Essien is the only like for like who I would say was superior to Fletcher at the moment, in terms of the all round package.

All in all just highlights how extremely mediocre the United midfield is when your DM is by far and away your best midfielder

I agree that Fletchalindho is Uniteds most improved player.
I wouldn't rank him as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe.

I don't think Mascherano is all he's made out to be by Liverpool fans, but he's certainly a better defensive midfielder then Fletcher.

Fletcher isn't a out and out defensive midfielder, he's an all rounder, and he's only called a defensive midfielder because United's middle lacks a bit of pace and a tackler.

Hargreaves when fit, is a far superior player.

Spurs starting 11: Gomes, Corluka, Dawson, Woodgate, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Palacios, Huddlestone, Kranjcar, Crouch, Defoe.

Rare start for Crouch.

Keane dropped for the first time in ages.

Mascherano's 10x the player Fletcher is. Fletcher's improved but he's still far from great; decent player to have in your squad but nothing more.

Fletcher's best games for Utd have been the one's he hasn't played in; his abilities got more praise after defeats to ourselves (this and last season) and the CL Final than any game he ever played in.

As for Liverpool yesterday; we've been cursed, our players are going down like flies :o

I wouldn't say Mascherano is ten times the player Fletcher is.

He's certainly a better defensive midfielder.

Keane dropped because he's not slept since missing those sitters against France?

Thats a bit strong. Sure Ronaldo's gone but you dont win 3 titles in a row with a bunch of donkeys.

Sure Ronaldo has gone, and Tevez, and Saha a couple of years ago (our entire forward line and all our attacking pace)

Since the first of the three titles to now 60+ goals a season has been allowed to walk out the door and no effort has been made to replace them.

So yes, in a side that lacks any sort of flair and creativity or pace, then Darren Fletcher suddenly doesnt look out of place.

You realise of course we have scored exactly the same amount of goals at this point of the season as we had last season

Saha was always injured so no loss at all to Utd - yes he is playing well at Everton and Im happy for him, but he never had the chance of these runs in the side at Utd due to injury

Tevez only had one decent season at Utd (his first)- and doesnt look like he is doing much better down the road

Valencia may not be an immediate replacement for Ronaldo's goals (no one person was ever going to be) but he looks on course to potentially get into double figures over the season....him scoring for Utd not particularly in the EPL specifically, and thats really good considering his previous scoring record
(plus a good amount from midfield which is also an improvement)
