Weekend Football Thread 31-2 *spoilers*

Game over 3-0...3 pts taken:D:D and Wengers 1000th prem point...what a way to get that :p

All in all a pretty awesome display...clinical play at times...impressed with our defence but not so much with Diaby and our finishing in front of the goal...we should have been at least 5 goals up but am pleased we put 3 past them....we missed a few easy chanches ie Eduardo one on one and even Diaby should have buried that header late in the 2nd half.

Looking at the table we are in 2nd place but thats all dependant on the later results and tottenham could be as low as 8th depending on the other weekend games.

All in all cant really complain about our display...we showed consistency and dominated pretty much the whole game although there was a period in the 2nd half where we were under a lot of pressure by the spurs.

Satisfied with the 3pts..Arsenal showing that they can be Prem winners again.

Liverpool: Reina, Insua, Degen, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Kuyt, Benayoun, Mascherano, Lucas, Voronin, Torres. Subs: Gulacsi, Babel, Spearing, Plessis, Dossena, Eccleston, Ayala.

oh dear

Great result :) Really should have been 5 or 6 in the end. Good performance aswell.

Why are Spurs fans complaining about injuries? They have a stronger bench than Arsenal?:p

clattenberg should go back to refereeing school

Not only failing to send Bentley off, he books Crouch for the same thing as he failed to with Assou-Ekotto (kicking/throwing the ball away). He booked TommyV for a good tackle aswell. Not only that he's general positioning is poor, he always seemed to be in the way.

We have the firepower but still not that killer edge you need to win the league imo (last week the perfect example), we need at least one enforcer to partner up with Cesc.

You're never going to win the league when you can't hold leads, we're not Barca and this isn't La Liga.

Absolute shocker from Clattenburg today, that guy has no clue.

Good result for Arsenal though, looks like my prediction of Spurs having no chance of getting into the CL is gonna be safe.

I honestly don't think I've ever seen as bad a refering performance as that, Bentley, deliberate handball, a awful challenge that could have been a red on its own, neither got a card is terrible. Ekotto with the blantant kick away, a bunch of fouls and a horrible one on Eduardo could easily have been sent off but don't think he got a yellow at all. Likewise, Vermaelen a yellow for a great challenge where he clearly got the ball first and barely made any contact, it certainly wasn't contact through the back and it was minor at best.

Palacios with foul, after foul, after foul, after foul, after foul and nothing. Not quite sure but did Crouch get a yellow for throwing the ball back to where the freekick was to be taken aswell?

Good performance but not great, was a very odd game, RVP's passing was awful all game, barely found anyone, first few shots were awful aswell but his first was class, second I'm not sure he actually shot at all, looks rather like the ball deflects off him. Fabregas's goal was just pure brilliance, helped by a sluggish defence.

Diaby, gave away the ball constantly, barely attempted a forwards pass all game, didn't make most of his passes, didn't retain the ball well, gave away freekicks in stupid places, had he not been on the pitch we would have absolutely demolished them.

Spurs were particularly bad though, a team that hadn't played together in that kind of setup much and it showed, no fluency, no understanding or partnerships and no one really stepped up their game at all.

yet again I'm rather angry that with the game gone with 35 minutes to go, we only saw Ramsey 6 mins from time while we were wasting time and Spurs had given up, what he learns from that I'll never know. Taking off RVP on a hattrick, instead of Diaby who was absymal again I'll also never understand.

Thats 18 starts for Fabregas, 9 goals and 14 assists, not to shabby :p

Can't believe they're criticising Almunia, barring one cross which he let go of for half a second he was flawless and looked extremely comfortable, what more could he have done, he dealt with everything. It's not his fault that Spurs barely had any good shots

dm, in fairness to Diaby he picked up his game hugely in the last 30 minutes. He is a player who is obviously lacking confidence. In days gone by he'd win the ball back and stride forward, now he hesitates on the ball. He is obviously nervous seeing Nasri right behind him and Rosicky too. That said, he was certainly poor for 60 minutes

Exactly what i was about to post...why they felt the need to bash him is beyond me...i thought he had a pretty decent game...i mean he was hardly tested which showed that Arsenals defence did a good job of mopping up in front of him...isnt that what defences are for??. And the chances he had ie few and inbetween he did well enough to clear the ball away.

Id rather have Almunia in the goal than Mannone or Fabianski...

Although i do agree with what Hoddle et al were saying about Arsenal not having a great goalkeeper...but as long as the defence doesnt leak goals i think we will be alright.

What we need is someone who can finish...i found Arsenal lacking in finishing today...we had so many chances but no one really buried them ie Eduardo had around 3 clear cut chances and RVP too...dont think RVP had a particularly good game in all honesty...i thought Fab had a stonker of a game but thats nothing unusual from him.

As for Ramsey??..its silly that he hardly gets any first team action...i mean i really really dont know why Wenger persists with Diaby...id rather see Ramsey take his place because everytime i see the lad play i cant help but be impressed by his ability.

Hopefully this result will give us the impetus to kill off games properly.

The Ref in this game was truly absymal...some utterly stupid and ridiculous decisions made by the ref...

To be fair Ramsey had a hard game midweek and looked total shot in the last 5 minutes, so 20 minutes might have been too much.

I would be replacing Diaby though, with either Nasri/Rosicky/Ramsey/Denilson/Wilshere, I'd also bee looking at playing Gibbs instead of Clichy, although I thought it was his best game this season.

I've been saying this for ages, hopefully theo will get fit and try and play a more central attacking role, RvP is good with shots, but there isn't anyone that can run behind the defenders fast enough like Henry did, unlike theo but he's injured.

It's obvious that Wenger is planning to put him more central, he'sbeen playing on the right because it's gives him more oppertunities to beat players and cut inside, he still has to make runs and try and create something out of nothing, just like what Henry did.

Henry used to be a winger and turned out to be one of the worlds best strikers, hopefully Walcott can do the same, he is still only 20 years old don't forget.
