** Weekend Football Thread ** *spoilers*

Dear oh dear.

Liverpool game was just a showcase of very poor refereeing.

I don't think the free kick was a free kick, for Masch ?

Either way, Phil Brown has to agree that them not getting the free kick wouldn't of done anything to help Hull ... not lose ? lol

Folan... tut tut, was a bit like Pepe but not quite as bad.

Yeah but you need to make a distinction between shielding the ball and obstruction.

Skrtel didn't have the ball in his possession, he was just holding Folan off. That's surely obstruction.

Seeing how the Ref gave a free kick for an identical foul on Geo later in the game.

Yes the foul on Folan was a penalty, probably a card.
Folan, however should have gone, no question.

I couldn't see Hull not loseing, no offence.
Ref wasn't that bad, I've not herd many grumblings from people who watched the game.

That was a shocking decision though and was only given as he'd just sent a Hull player off.

@ Burned Alive: yea first game on.

Doesn't matter, you hope he didn't give that because Hull had 10 men.

Ref's aren't suposed to try and "balance" things, they're on the pitch to enforce the laws of the game ?

If he was giving a free kick for the foul out side the box, he should be giving a foul for it inside the box.

I plain and simply, don't think the Ref had the balls to give a penalty against Liverpool.

Which is a shame, because a ref should be able to give any decision anywhere.

And if a ref doesn't give a foul for a challenge inside the box it shouldn't be a foul outside the box.

Neither Skrtel's or Carra's challenges were fouls. He made a poor decision to give a foul for the Carra incident.

Actually forgot they were that way round. My mistake.

If the ref didn't give it the first time, he shouldn't give it the second. That is how you become a bad ref, you should be giving the same decisions all the time.

Sunderland aren't looking too good.

How did he give that penalty? The way people were saying it was an easy mistake for the ref to make I figured Gomez had hardly touched the ball but you can see quite clearly see the ball totally changes direction.

Ask Howard Webb ?

Write him a letter :)

I don't think the penalty mattered much, United were flying forward, they'd have scored and probably won, with or without that.

Watching the replay in slowmo it shows Carrick touches the ball 1st then Gomez gets a slight hand on it but ends up sending Carrick over

Why isn't that a pen? (I'm not looking for an argument just clarification as I'm on the fence)

Carricks left foot knocked the ball or tried to knock it round the keeper ;)

Penalty :p

Said that earlier.

Carricks touch would have let him get round the keeper.

As i initially said he gave it because of the pressure he was under due to the reaction of the Hull crowd after the red card. Like it or not but it happens all the time.

You barely ever see a foul given for a player putting himself inbetween the attacker and ball (if he's letting it run out for a goal kick or to run through to the keeper) and you see far worse incidents than what Skrtel or Carra done.

Aye, looks that way. I'm sorry I thought the fouls were the other way round :)

Ref's this year have being really poor.

Regardless of which way round the fouls were, anybody can see that free-kicks and pens just aren't given for what happened in either incident.

You see I agree, but if a ref gives a freekick outside the area, he must also give it inside the area, I know they were the wrong way round, but not giving the first, he shouldn't of given the second.

Sometimes ref's make mistakes in giving fouls, but if they give the "mistake" all the time, it's easier to take.

I thought Theo was pretty good, it certainly looks like he's finding the form he had before injury, and let's face it, even when he isn't playing very well he's still extremely dangerous. I'm really happy he's been given a shot this season and he seems a lot more comfortable in the first team, in terms of attacking, Arsenal are really good at the minute, but obviously the real test will be against Vidic and Ferdinand!

YOU'RE ALL WRONG. WAIT TIL THEY COME UP AGAINST JOHN O'SHEA

Well Liverpool unlikely, Fulham is possible, Villa unlikely but you never know what can happen on the final day. But still 3 points against Boro would mean Hull require a point.

Hull have

Villa away
Stoke Home
Bolton away
United Home

Can't see them getting a point against United or Villa (unless the title is won by then and United do what we did last season :p), Stoke at home is probably their best chance. Either way it's going to be quite close.

I struggle to see Newcastle getting a single point, Middlesborough play good football, and played well against a very inform Arsenal.

Hull are playing really badly at the moment and haven't had any luck, I think they could get something at Stoke ( Agree with you on that ), same way Newcastle could get something at Middlesborough.

You've got to remember, Stoke are safe.
Middlesborough aren't.
They have as much going on that game as Newcastle do.

I do think boro are the better team, but with the Newcastle home fans I think it could be a really close game, especially as both teams know what is riding on it.

Don't use the "fans at home" thing :p

It didn't work tonight against a very defensive and average Portsmouth.

If Newcastle had any chance of staying up they needed to win tonight.

I'll be seeing you at Hillsborough next season ;)

Are you kidding me?! Dunno where you're living in Newcastle, but it must be under a rock! :p

I don't even live in Newcastle (have family there who are season ticket holders) and I'd being hearing whispers about Shearer.

I think it's the problem with listening to your fans, they know **** all about appointing managers like Shearer / Keegan.

I'm probably late to the party with this but...

The thing that got me about Shearer's appointment was that a selection of Newcastle fans said things like "I don't care if we go down as long as he's in charge" or "He won't be at fault, whatever happens". For me this is a shocking mentality to take, not caring about Premiership survival as long as Shearer is the boss. It seems like some Newcastle fans have already selected their scapegoat and have admitted defeat, there is still time to save their season but it feels like they'd rather just blame Ashley and go down.

I'd like to see Shearer keep them up, but then I think we might be in for a few of their players if they go down :p.

I agree, I've not herd many Newcastle fans that say they are dissapointed about Shearer coming in and that they don't mind going down with him in charge.

Funny.
I can see most of their squad leaving and then having to rebuild and push for promotion from a League that is ******* hard to get out of.

I personally don't think Ashley is 100% to blame, I think the fans have something to do with the state the club is currently in.
