Manchester United keeper Edwin van der Sar will miss the start of the season after undergoing surgery on a broken finger and bone in his left hand.

Very excited about the opening local derby against the Dingles :]

Can't wait !! :)

*Newcastle are on Sky and BBC a lot this year, Sky showed a lot of Birmingham, why can't they just pic equal games or do a random draw

Nothing against the teams they choose, just would be nice to see other teams play.

Manchester United V Chelsea aren't what I'd call a great game of football.

Often dull, looking forward to it though. New look United V New Chelsea.

Back from Hillsborough :/

Pleased that the football season has started nice to get it underway :D

Wednesday were fantastic, brilliant in the first half, due much to how utter **** the dingles were. Played well, and Grant made a couple of decent saves but I never thought the dingles looked like getting a goal in the first half. We got two, could have had a third or fourth, same goes for them in the second half though. We passed and moved really well first half.

alas, "a tale of two halves" Wednesday looked too relaxed, complacent and basically took their foot off the pedal, which is something they did a lot last season :(

The dingles were much better second half, don't think they played good football, but they played to their strengths, a lot of high balls in to the area and got forward well, complete dominated a pathetic Wednesday second half.

A draw was a fair result, Wednesday were brilliant and the dingles **** first half.
Wednesday were **** and the dingles miles better second half.

Some of the dingles players really didn't look bothered about playing either, Franny was pretty ineffective to say the least against that beast of a center back the dingles have (moore ? is that his name ? crap footballer, but you'll never get past / round him and you won't beat him in the air, esp not Jeffers who just can't head a ball to start with and is so weak a wet paper bag could contain him)

I would agree with the majority of that :p

Moore is a beast, anything in the air he will eat up for breakfast but anything on the floor and he's a nightmare. Similar to what Purse is for you I would say.

I was annoyed at JCR in particular regarding how quiet he was, considering he's meant to be our star man and all.

Your best players were Gray and Grant imo, those saves from Macken in the first half were both beauties.

It was an enjoyable game though overall and it definitely summed up the saying "a game of two halves".

I agree, Moore is a beast in defence but only when the opposing team play to his strengths, for example launching the ball down the center, in which he can pressure (and foul a lot :p) and generally get his rather massive face to the ball.

Purse is decent in the air, we have Beevers and Wood who are much better technically and much quicker. A presence in the air is something that we have lacked.

JCR didn't really notice him at all, which is a surprise because he was the stand out man last year in the same fixture. I didn't think much to anderson, he looked awful and very nasty in the tackle and fairly average on the ball.

Gray is a decent player, much better this season partly due to the fact we have an almost fully fit side. He is as a result able to play a much more free role. Johnson was brilliant first half but a lack of service and been marked in to the ground in the second half made his performance very very average. Grant was his normal self, which means nothing short of brilliant :D

Good atmosphere, you lot were loud second half and quiet first, vise versa for us. Good game, enjoyed it, always a good natured friendly :]

watching the highlights as well :)

I disagree about Mark Beevers, last season he improved with each passing game. I think we'll do very well to hold on to him.

He looks like been a real quality defender, today and probably a few games this season he will be coming off the bench, we signed a experienced defender in Purse which we needed.

You were a lot louder second half.

I think it was a yellow :p he made a few niggling and nasty tackles in the first half, and a couple more in the second, lucky lad, another ref could have sent him off.

*edit, you're manager SD looks a complete plonka in his shorts, socks pulled up and t-shirt, either get him in a track suit or a suit :(

He looked a right plonka, 'ave a word and stop it happening again ;)

Butterfield ? he did well not to panic in that situation, took it very well.

I'm always impressed by the young player we have developed, Spurr, Beevers, Wood, mcallister (he was our sub, who looked like a child, and more often then not, the children that are on the pitch are bigger then him :D)

Really enjoying the game.

Interesting game really, Chelsea have been much better second half, playing really well.
Manchester United, look a little "meh" second half, were better in the first.

I thought it was a foul on Evra, and Ballack was very lucky to escape without a red for an elbow. I also thought Rooney was offside :p football :) nice to have it back.

Andy Gray is a complete tool as well.

Side note, does anyone see this game as a "If United win, Fergie is a great manager, and they're not missing Ronaldo. oooo is Ancelotti the right man for the Chelsea job??"

"If Chelsea win, Ancelotti is a great manager. Fergie hasn't replaced Ronaldo and United miss him."
