** Weekend Football Thread **

Quite often yes, I am continually reading various people commenting that Liverpool are overly defensive and too cautious etc etc. Seems somewhat odd for a team labelled with those tags to score over 100 goals in a season..

Probably because so many times they have got a late goal and so many times they have played the long ball game. Didn't I see a stat recently that had liverpool top of the long ball table?

A real shame Torres has started so few games this year and only 16 with gerrard as a pairing. I think it would be all over now had they gotten more games together this year.

Hopefully Torres will stay fit next year so we see more from him.

20 years ago:

Newcastle and Middlesbrough are relegated, Everton lose in the F.A Cup final, Liverpool's title hopes disappear during the last game of the season.

hmmmm

Oh how I will laugh if Big Sam keeps Blackburn up and Newcastle go down :D

Saaaame !

I remember having a discussion with friends who are season ticket holders are Newcastle and they said they didn't like having Shearer in and would have rather had a man in who had expirence with keeping teams up.

Couldn't help but say "like Big Sam" :D

Good result for Liverpool, keeping the pressure on Manchester United.
Getting really close at the bottom, Hull and Sunderland aren't safe, West Brom making a last ditch attempt to escape ? would be amazing if Newcastle, Hull and Middlesborough go down and West Brom stay up !

I'm really nervous for the Boro game,

have Fulham or Villa anything to play for still because ideally it would be good to go to them with only us needing any points...

Im fairly confident we can beat Boro at home.... I have no idea where i get that confidence from though

Villa have been on a bad run of form for a while now but they can still finish 5th so they might perform in the last games to secure it. I think it's the absymal form of Hull that will lift one of Newcastle or Middlesbrough out of the drop zone depending on whoever wins on Monday night, if someone wins. A draw won't really help either team. On the positive side, Newcastle have the best goal difference out of the bottom 4 so that may very well be the thing that keeps them up.

Desperation...were all feeling it, we all think it will get us the result. :(

Spoken like a true plastic football fan.

Truly though you and your friend are from different worlds than me.

Football isn't something you had a choice about, its like being christened as a baby, try having a say in that. You grow up and there's one team, and you might have some good times but generally its misery and body blows for life...that's what supporting your team, the team given to you by your family is all about. That is what football is to me, and to most people i know. Just a total way of life.

Choosing your team, FFS, i wish i knew what that felt like. I've more respect for any mackem than your general manc, they get it, no matter if they don't wash too often.

You're such a girl. If you don't want to support whoever it is you're expected to support, then don't :)

Yeh thats what im thinking.. for some reason a lot of newcastle fans are expecting us to beat Boro.. but they need to win as much as we do and we have both been really terrible for a long time.

Could have 0-0 all over it

Only thing we've got going for us is that they need the win as much as us where as Portsmouth didn't, they held back and settled quite early on for the draw and made it tough. A draw for either is no good, Boro must win as much as we need it and hopefully that opens them up.

Our recent record against them though hasn't been good, its a coins throw of a result.
