looking at booking the met hotel in leeds for 2 nights.

its just off wellington street.

anyone know the area can tell me how the location of it is and how far from the shops etc it is?

any recommendations to see/do?

or any better hotels?

can get 2 nights for about £130 and would much rather have a nicer hotel than cheapo with prob £150 max budget.

thanks.

I've stayed at the Met. We had our work Christmas party there and stayed there. Nice hotel (though I stayed in a twin room with a colleague- assume the couples' rooms are also nice).

Bar is eye wateringly expensive (£26 for a pint, a malibu and coke, and a whisky and coke).

It's very central, easy to get to places from. It's close to the train station which is handy if you don't want to drive (and if you're planning on staying in Leeds itself, I wouldn't bother driving).

Not a great deal in Leeds city centre itself other than shops etc - slightly outside the city centre there's the Royal Armouries which is a good way to pass a couple of hours.

Restaurant wise, I can recommend Fazenda. It's yum and a great novelty experience (if you like steak!) http://www.fazenda.co.uk/menu-dining-experience/dining-experience.html

Not much to see in Leeds tbh. Good shopping city but that's about it.

The Armouries is worth a look though. Even suitable for women. I took my gf and she loved it.

Harewood House is lovely and nice for an afternoon, but about 10 miles outside of Leeds.

Thx for the suggestions of of restaurants.

Plan was to one day see what ever there is and 2nd day do a bit of shopping.

Think we will get the train rather than drive.

Its very central, next door to the train station.

Shops wise you are about a 5 minute walk to Briggate and Headrow which are the roads with the main shops on, Harvey Nicks and the like.

Loads of good restaurants within 5 minutes: Jamies Italian, Blackhouse, Riverplate (Great Steaks), Brasserie 44.

Bars: Call lane is just around the corner lost of nice cocktail bars, Eporto, Neon Cactus, Bar Room Bar, Wardrobe.

Attractions: Leeds museum is just up the road, the Royal Armouries is a bit further away but defiantly within walking distance. Cinema is close as well as a bowling alley.

+1 for the blackhouse. Forgot about that. Great food. Havent eaten at Jamie's Italian yet, but know I will be doing soon as had so many good reviews of it!

Went with my old man, we had a 40oz T-Bone on a share platter, not cheap but very very good.

+1 for Blackhouse. There are often 50% off food vouchers on the net if you sign up to their mailing list etc. Unfortunately 50% off doesn't apply to the £55 Kobe Fillet Steak or the Lobster. It applies to everything else though.

Jamies Kitchen is utter dog****. I've been twice and both times had to have money knocked off the bill. First time my Dad's meal was stone cold, and second time I ordered the seafood risotto which arrived with 1 one ONE(!?) prawn. I asked where the rest were and the waitress skulked off to ask. The manager came over and said "I understand you think we're ripping you off?" (i never once used the words ripping off and was very polite when bringing the situation up). Then he went on to tell me that I was only actually supposed to get 2 two TWO(!?) prawns as they carefully measure/count out all the ingredients. Not something you'd expect of an £18 dish. Pathetic. AVOID! Tasted alright though I suppose.

Your mrs will probably like it. Because it's Jamie.

I dont like Leeds.

I got stuck there a couple of weeks when a collegues car we were sharing broke down after a business trip.

It wasnt nice.

I should also add I used to live in Leeds- It's Ok I suppose - quite boring- but I wouldn't go back.

Fri & Saturday night in town isn't pretty!
