Hello.
I was talking to someone about Windows Experience Index scores, and we found out that he had a very similar RAM as me.
Mine is this one, and his is this one.
As you can see, his is 5-5-5 and mine is 4-4-4. So mine should be better, right?

Well, I score a 5.2 on WEI, and he scored 5.9

I downloaded CPU-Z, and checked the memory section. This is what I found:

Does anything look wrong there, and if so, how can I fix it?

Check my sig for the rest of the specs.

You'll need to manually set the four timings to 4, 4, 4 and 15 respectively.

Okay, I realised that it was running in single-channel, because I had put one of the RAM sticks in the wrong slot.
I have done that, and the score is now up to 5.6

How do I manually change the timings? Is it in the BIOS?

Yip they'll be in the BIOS.

And I wouldn't pay too much attention to the WEI tbh.

I had a look in my BIOS, and everything was set to Auto.
So I changed the settings to 4-4-4 15, and it didn't work - The computer turned off, then back on, then sat then running full pelt.
I ended up turning it off and back on, and it told me overclocking had failed.

Those 6-6-6-18 timings are like fail safe timings for motherboards that can only use the default ddr2 voltage - 1.8v. If you look in the SPD tab of CPU-Z it should say this. To use the tighter timings you will have to set the VDIMM to 2.1v as mentioned above. Some motherboards would only show 2.1v as "+0.3v"

Well, I downloaded the manual for the P5K motherboard (I don't know if I have mislaid mine or if I never had one), and it says that one of the options should be a setting to change the voltage, but I don't have it on mine.
I bought the motherboard about 3 months ago, but I don't know if my BIOS is outdated. Also, there are loads of settings on the BIOS for RAM, but none of them really say what they are for! I don't want to manually change the timings on something and find out I've done it wrong and cocked up my computer :(

Gaaah, this is getting so confusing!

Oh, I had a look at the SPD, and it definately is 1.8v So that needs to be changed too :(

I tried to update my BIOS, incase the settings needed were in the newer version, but no luck :(

Ooookay, I think I might be getting somewhere.
I fully upgraded my BIOS, and it laid out the settings better, so it is now changed to 4-4-4 15.

The problem is, I changed the voltage to 2.1v, but CPU-Z still shows 1.8v - why is that?

The SPD table is just text built into the chip thats all. It won't change. It's showing you what it will default to untill you manually change the voltage and timings.

Well, I think everything is as it should be.
The numbers are exactly the same up there now, except for Command Rate (CR) which is now 1T instead of 2T.

However, I am still getting 5.6 on WEI.
I know someone said to not take any notice of WEI, but if someone has slightly worse RAM, but is getting a higher score, it bugs me to not know why.
