Looked at a picture of myself the other week... and decided "man i'm fat".
So losing weight now, started off by getting an exercise bike and doing 10km a day (occasionally another 10km when i get bored), breakfast is now down to 1/2 a grapefruit, another portion of fruit and a glass of apple juice. Lunch is a sandwich, Dinner is meat and 3 veg. No longer drinking fizzy drinks, sticking with water and the occasional cup of tea.
So far i've lost a fair bit (considering i've only been going 1 week).

The question is, anyone else had any success at weight loss in the past and what their method was.

Knocking out fizzy drinks will make a huge difference mate...

Ive lost weight a ton of times then gained it back :o Good luck to ya.

Formula for Success

Calories Eaten < Calories Burnt

:p

Sounds like your on the right path, increased exercise combined with diet adjustment is the best way of losing weight. Just keep it up, try and add some Cardio exercise into your plan. Something like the Rowing Machine at a gym or Swimming (Proper swimming, ie lengths).

Yes, I'm in the same boat. I have become a right lard-arse since getting an Xbox 360. Congrats to you - keep it up.

I want to be in a position a couple of years from now where I can do a marathon. Need to get rid of about 5 stone for optimal weight!

I like my Guinness too much!

healthy balance is the key :)

not too much of any one thing. and balancing intake and burn off.

exercise is healthy. eating is healthy.
choccy bars and coke isnt healthy.

although I quite often "treat" myself.
I quite like good foods though :) rice, chicken etc. and am not much of a sweet man.

working week:
breakfast: apple banana cup fo tea with sugar.
lunch: sandwich or something
evening: full meal.

but i dont do much exercise. and I like a beer. bit sofft round the edges but certainly not obese. and i feel quite healthy. play drums enough hours a week to class it as exercise :)

good luck!

Sounds like you are off to a good start. The most important thing is to make it sustainable.

Maybe you could join a cycling club or other group activity. As soon as exercise becomes sociable and you are committed to turn up on a regular basis you are far more likely to keep it up.

If I may offer some advice, your breakfast is too small and has too much sugar (fructose), try scambled eggs (3*egg whites per yolk) with skimmed milk and wholemeal bread (and some beans!). This will give you an excellent blend of protein and slow releasing carbs. Your current breakfast will, in the long run, make you feel tired and hungrier as the day goes on.

That's great but remember short-term weight loss is quite attainable. In order for you to remain at a healthy weight you need to alter your life-style for the forseeable future. Otherwise you'll go back to your old weight.

Good advice, the protein is good for suppressing appetite until lunch and the slow releasing carbs avoid radical fluctuations in blood sugar levels that cause hunger pangs.

i decided about 3 years ago my waist line was getting to big when i went to buy some jeans and had to get a 36" pair (considering i am only 5'9 thats quite big for me). I'm now back down to 32's and have been for a while.

I was 13 stone, down to around the 11 mark (seems to fluctuate between 10.5 and just over 11 depending on how much physical work i have been doing).

I basically cut out snacks, fizzy drinks, sweets etc etc. I also started having soup for lunch and if i really wanted a snack had a piece of fruit. Tend to stick to water most of the day for my liquid refreshment.

It all goes pete tong at the weekends when i head to the footy and then out in town, but it balances out with eating and drinking healthily through the week.

I also manage a couple of games of footy a week and head to the gym a couple of times.

I lost 5 and a half stone last year in 7 months, just cut out all junk food, done 45 minutes everyday on an exercise bike at a good pace (so you work up a good sweat). Eat 3 or 4 small meals a day, porridge for breakfast is good.

Dont have suger in tea, have sweetner. Little things like that is ok, just stick with it and you will see progress, you will probably hit a brick wall after a few months and the weight will stop coming off, just change your exercise routine about for a bit to keep your body guessing otherwise it gets used to the same old thing everyday.

Its fine to drink diet coke by the way if you like fizzy drinks, just remember dont starve yourself, you dont need to, just cut out the crap :)

Hopefully dmpoole will look into this thread because I know for a fact he's lost at least five inches off his waist in five weeks and he's eating well. He was that fat he couldn't get into his shorts on stage for three months.

I lost 3/4 stone over a 6/7 month period and feel wonderful. Now 6"1 and just about 11.6 stone(stillpretty heavy, but i have put on a lot of muscle aswell) 34" waist.

Thing is, i havent gone over the top either, i just stopped eating crap, it is pretty simple.

No sweets, crisps, chocolate, cakes (apart from scones yumyum) ... i still have the occasional kebab on a drunken night out, i still drink lots of beer!

I do excerise most days, walking from college and to college multiple times a day aswell. Situps and pressups each night, and sometimes in the morning.

Weight sessions also (but i recently messed my hand skating so cant now for a while). Gained a lot of muscle and all is good.

Even now im about to eat beans on toast, all is good. Just be more cautious than extreme is my advice, as extreme doesnt last, but cautios has stuck with me now.

Hope it helps give you inspiration mate. Its a tough journey but its worth it. I managed to get down more than the photos on the site, the more you lose the better you feel and just gives you more gusto to keep going.
FANTASTIC ACIEVEMENT, WELL DONE M8

I lost 3 stone in 18 months, it came down slooowwwly :)
Best tips I can give:
1/Eat a breakfast without fail, kickstart that metabolism.
2/Drink at least 2 litres of water a day. It helps the vital organs to digest food better and it can help to make you full when hungry.
3/ Have healthy snacks around the house, fruit, nuts, seeds etc.
4/Take up some form of exercise, I run a few times a week now.
5/Allow treats, something to look forward to. I regularly have Indian take- aways and Fish and Chips (Just not every other night ;) )
If all you can do is to start by adding the good stuff rather than worrying about taking out the bad, eventually you will see results and put more of the good in :)
A bit of Feng Shui now :D De-clutter your home, if you home is stuffed with clutter, thin it down. As I lost weight so did my home.
Lastly, once you start to loose weight, get rid of your old clothes that are too big and replace them with slimmer new clothes to affirm the new you :)
GOOD LUCK

I've made a recent decision to start exercising again so I've started swimming plus I'm doing my bets to eat healthy. I'm not hugely overweight but the boyfriend has just started going down *** gym again so he's making me feel lazy. :D
