weight loss

I've lost three stone in the last fifteen months. I went from 19.5st to 16.5st (or around 124kg to 103kg approx for the metrically-minded :D ). I realised things were bad when I found myself buying XXL t-shirts. I mean, I have a big frame anyway, but I was ironing a shirt and realised it was more like a tent.

The first stone came from changing my diet and cutting out sweets, cakes and all the other things I used to snack on, while moving from a fatty lunch to a salad. After 8 months, I'd lost a stone (I decided slow was best), but things hadn't changed for about three months.

So, I changed my lifestyle. I went from three meals a day, to five smaller meals a day (07h00, 10h30, 14h00, 18h00 and 20h30). I started exercising (stationary bike) and did some weights. I lost a further two stone in the lat seven months and my body fat has gone down, while my muscle size has increased.

I've gone from a 42" waist, to 36/38" and had to put new holes in my belt a few weeks back cos I was showing my crack to the office. I feel miles better for it, and I can wear large (no Xs, yay) shirts again.....I put all my XL or XXL tshirts and shirts in a charity bag and gave them away.

Happy to go more in-depth if required. The Sports Arena forum on here is a good place to search for similar items.

Keep up the good work. I was so happy when i went from large t-shirts to medium and 36/34 waist to 32. I was 13.5 stone a few years ago now im more like 10.5.
When I go home and see how big the large tshirts are I think, god there huge.

Its just crap that now when buying stuff like jeans in sales all the sizes are taken!

Well done guys, some awesome achievements in here!

I am back in the same boat now lol.

When I was at Uni I lost 4 stone in about 9 months and got down to 12 stone which is spot on for my height and build.

Sadly when I left uni and had to get a real job, I lost the time and inclination to do anything and I am now back to where I started :(

Just started the gym again today and have changed my work life to try and fit it all in.

Good luck guys

Aaron

I've lost almost 3/4 of a stone since Jan. Stopped drinking as much beer, swimming three times a week and play tennis twice a week.

Now I've sprained my ankle and have to take a few weeks off :(.

Latest update... 1 stone in 3 weeks :D

I'll get some before and current pics up on my website at some point.. when i can be bothered to upload them :p

fastest method is to go on low carb diet, since i never do cardio workouts and just weight train its better for me.
around 8 eggs a day and various portions of chicken (grilled) and plent of water will see 1 stone drop off every 2 weeks or so.

good thing is you don't need to do any cardio workouts, i prefer to just work on the weights.

Great achievements for some of the people on here.

Don't ever follow a diet that would require you to almost cut out carbs it's pointless. If you can work out your RMR and make sure you're taking in 500cals a day less than your maintainance rate then mathmatically it will be fine.

My tips as ever would be:

- Start a weight training routine. The more muscle you have the more calories are burned daily.

- Sort out your diet, and start a diet journal making sure you record what you've eaten, it's calorie content, protein, carbs and fats.

- Remember 1g Carb = 4 Calories, 1g Protein = 4 Calories, 1g Fat = 9 calories

- Begin cardio training. For example swimming will burn calories for up to 6 hours after you've finished the session.

- Set yourself realistic goals, attainable goals.

- Don't go by the scales, go by the mirror

- Eat 6 meals a day, but smaller meals. So take your daily calorie allowance and split it between 6 meals. Each time you eat your metabolism will boost.

- Have a junk day every now and again, for me whilst bodybuilding it's once a week whilst on a cut. Otherwise your body gets used to the diet and will start storing fat, a junk day stops this.

Looked at a picture of myself the other week... and decided "man i'm fat".
So losing weight now, started off by getting an exercise bike and doing 10km a day (occasionally another 10km when i get bored), breakfast is now down to 1/2 a grapefruit, another portion of fruit and a glass of apple juice. Lunch is a sandwich, Dinner is meat and 3 veg. No longer drinking fizzy drinks, sticking with water and the occasional cup of tea.
So far i've lost a fair bit (considering i've only been going 1 week).

The question is, anyone else had any success at weight loss in the past and what their method was.

yes, I lost 4 and a half stone by sensible eating and regular exercise.

Keep going, it took me about 6 months but it goes!

good for you buddy, keep up the good work and STICK TO IT! :D

:)

I've upped my swimming for 15 lengths (375m) to 56 lengths (1400m) over the past 2 months. The stamina boost is amazing. Can do more each week! Aiming for the magic 65 lengths (1 mile), hope to hit it next week!

did anyone watch ufc 5 the other night where the guy had to loose 7 pounds in 2 hours for the weight in. He managed to loose 4 pounds by cycling in a sauna in a body suit and tin foil. but he fainted!

thats some serious water loss. slightly unhealthy!

ive got bored of doing 8km a day at the gym so ive changed to cycling, rowing, running, situps, pressups, swimming and generally changing the things I do. Apart from the fact my legs/knees were knackering up with all the running

i lost weight by varying my diet regularly so my body didnt get into 'habits', and so didnt slow down the weight loss process. plus, it kept me sane- i couldnt live without some foods! i varied what i ate and how much each day, and did a stable minimum of 30mins exercise a day, and on top of that, whatever i felt like.
worked for me :)

bodybuilders were doing very low carbs a long time before atkins made it famous :D

i agree though, you should not fully cut out carbs and tbh you shouldnt drop them to a very low level for a long period of time (even atkins tells you this!)

:D

I've lost two stone since January through Cardio and healthy eating.
Off on holiday tomorrow so I went low carb for the last two weeks to get rid of another 1/2 stone or so. :D
From tomorrow I'll ween myself back onto carbs and healthy eating slowly and carry on as normal.
:)

Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm really struggling to lose the old belly too. I don't know what it is, I do 4-5 hard cardio workouts per week (4-5 hours in total) which burn off approx. 700-1000 calories per session. I try and eat moderately but I like the old chocolate bar. I'm generally happy with my frame, but my stomach seems to be getting bigger! It's bizarre. I had an operation for appendicitis 15 weeks ago that's the only thing I can think of that is preventing my weight loss.

I'm 6ft 8 and 20 stone 7 at the moment. I used to be 23 stone 5 so I have lost a lot of weight in 2 years, but it just seems to have stopped. I'm 32 by the way.

Please advise :D

during my 3 weeks on my new workout / diet. I've managed to lose 2" off my waist. I'd suggest lots of situps after your cardio ^^
