Weighted Blankets

Does anyone have any experience with these and if they actually make a genuine difference to how well you sleep?

It's supposed to trigger the sleep you got as a child wrapped up in a blanket or being held. It seems to work for some people. I don't like even a quilt too tight around me or hanging off the bed where it will weigh down on me, the wife however will often be found wrapped like a sushi roll, or with the quilt piled in the middle of the bed and herself parked on top of it.

You don't really know if it will work until you try it, though maybe you could see if a heavy blanket or one tucked in tight on the bed improves your sleep.

Our lass has bought one of eBay for 32 quid queen size.
Weighs a bloody tonne! But stops her clinging to me as she needs the weight for some reason to help her sleep, not good in summer though!

Where'd I mention autism? You brought that in. I asked a question. Some people never develop out of certain childhood stages. I know 40 year olds who suck their thumbs for example.

How is mentioning the fact scandinavians eat rotten fish judging them for having a culture? Lol. If anything it perhaps casts doubt on their culture being a great one to emulate all aspects of! Seriously...go hug your wife you sad, strange little man.

I think you need to relax about people wanting weighted blankets. You know as well as I do that they help people with autism. You don't have to be an arse about it.

My partner has one although she doesn't use it much, apparently it helps but can be a bit hot on a warm night.

Bloody heavy as well, not sure I'd sleep under it.

That's what'd put me off using them. My feet always get very warm in bed, even under a normal duvet i have to have them poking out the end for durations of the night.

Individual covers is no bad thing. Removes all the stealing of covers issues.

EDIT - Nothing says your feet have to be covered by a weighted blanket either.. You can stick them out too :D.

As for rotting fish, so what? If it's tasty, it's tasty. Just because something doesn't fit your cultural indoctrination, doesn't mean it's bad.

Hi,

Though I don't have experience with them for adults (apart from bigger quilts in the winter - which do work), we do however have weighted blankets for our kids. My oldest in particularly (5 years old) - it settles him very well at night, especially recently in the heat / over tiredness etc. :)

My 8 year old has one as it was supposed to help ADHD/Autism. Can't say I've noticed much difference in his sleep. I've slept under it a few times and it's a bit weird but I don't get better sleep.

Can easily imagine it's not for everyone. The blankets we have come with a suggestion to try it for 3 weeks before making a decision. Didn't take us that long to decide, feels really nice for us. Let my mum try it (the light one for the boy, not the heavier ones we use) and she hated it :D.

Yeah, it's not cultural indoctrination, it's just disgusting. This is from someone who has tried several different varieties. So pipe down.

So you have a psychic link that tells you what I know? Impressive. Are you on TV? I'll watch your show. I'll be amazed. I'll oooo and ahhh at all the right times.

But of course, you can see inside my head. You already know this.

Drink beer? Eat yoghurt and cheese? How about bread? That's all fermented foods too. Some you like, some you don't, to suggest a culture has nothing to offer because you don't like the flavour of some of their foods is pretty narrow minded.

I didn't suggest that a culture had nothing to offer. You're letting your own strange bias show through there. I merely suggested they're not the epitome of taste.
You tried any rotting fish products btw?

Yes I have, interesting flavour, one I reckon I could enjoy, but I'm not going to get much of it. You're trying to suggest that because they have different food tastes to you, that using separate duvets is a terrible idea. Sorry, but you're the one trying to tar an entire cultures ideas because you don't like how some of their food tastes :D.

No, I'm suggesting that just because they do it doesn't make it a good idea. Again, you've applied your own bias. Think you need to take a time out and have a period of self reflection. Perhaps alone in your single duvet with rotten sea creatures.

Predictable thread diversion is boring and predictable.

Tried one at a friends house once as I slept in his kids bed. That paired with the blackout curtains was pure heaven. Slept solidly for about 8 hours which at that time was incredibly rare.

Keep asking the lady friend if we could get one but she roasts under even the thinnest duvet if it's not winter time. Would definitely recommend trying one though.

I struggle with heat, haven't been able to use mine every night in the last week, but it's no worse (at least for me) than any thin duvet. It's another advantage to having separate duvets again, I can have something that suits me, and my wife can have something that suits her.

I think it's more the weight that gives people the impression of it being hotter.

I kinda like the idea of separate duvets... Not sure my gal would go for it though as she's a voracious cuddler.

It does make it seem like it'd be boiling, but it really isn't. My missus likes to be close, which often leads to her slowly moving over the bed, and me perching on the edge trying to move away, just too hot for me. Separate duvets has actually helped with that, now I'm just perched on the edge because of the cat and the boy also joining us.
