Weird FPS issue in TF2

Basically I reversed my overclock from 3.2 to 2.4 (stock Q6600) because it just wasn't worth it. Virtually none of the games that I play noted any difference.

Now for some reason my FPS in TF2 have nose dived (I do not think that it's related to the OC). For example I was on 2Fort just a moment a go when my FPS dipped below 50 on the bridge, but nobody was about.

It's really odd. I've tried changing drivers to no avail.

have you tried the multicore trick?

Add all those commands into the console and see if your fps improves. Seen as tf2 only uses one core at the moment your 3.2 ghz cpu is now 2.4 and the loss of processing power means a drop in fps. When I did the dual core trick my cpu usage shot to 100% and the limiting factor or the fps was my 8800gt. The only downside to it is that some people find their game sometimes becomes unstable, not a problem however as its easy to reverse.

Just remembered if it works well then add them into your config to keep it.

Why not try increasing the overclock again and see where that takes you? If it still makes no difference then you know that it wasn't the OC.

However, TF2 is a source engine game, which is *heavily* CPU dependant.

edit: Logic would dictate that if you do something, and something bad happens, the first port of call would be to undo the 'something' that you did.

Logic certainly would dictate that. But then why would I get lower FPS in an area which was populated by zero players, when compared to an area full of pyros and what not?

Perhaps you have something else running in the background that's causing it..or it could be some weird intricacy of TF2 that isn't immediately apparent.

Either way, try testing it out with the overclock back on. If it doesn't solve the issue you've eliminated that as a possible cause...if it does solve the issues, you're saving yourself hours of needlessly trying to diagnose a problem.

No, because I know it doesn't work for me :)

It just crashes my game. Thanks for the help anyway :)

Edit: I'll try the overclock again.

Sorry if I came across as a bit rude in the earlier post - didn't word it very well...and lazy co-workers are annoying me.

I had the same problem when i only used "mat_queue_mode "2"

It would crash after a couple of mins of play, however when i put in all of them my game was 100% stable and ran far better.

Not at all. I'm not obvlious to the fact that I had an 800mhz overclock, but as I said these dips are very odd.

It probably is the overclock, so we'll see.

I always get fps dips around the bridge on 2fort.

If you want real dips, try firing the shotgun/flaregun whilst underwater!
It must be some stupid issue with the bridge or the water..

but hey, if it's only dipping to 50fps, it's nothing to be concerned about :)
