Weird hotel (room) question!!

Hotels do not allow you to take your own food in with you. You eat hotel restaurant food in the hotel or you eat out. Simple.

If you chaps don't believe me, try blatantly taking a bag of groceries past hotel reception up to your room. Assuming they notice, and depending on what kind of hotel you're staying in, 1 of 3 things can happen:

1. You will get a warning and be told not to do it again in future (doubtful; 2. or 3. more likely)
2. You will be told you will have to dispose of your groceries outside the hotel premises.
3. You will be asked to end your stay at the hotel.

Edit: Unless the hotel specifically states your room is a "Self-Catering Room", which is rare unless you are actually staying at a short-term let, rather than an actual hotel with room service, 24h reception, daily housekeeping, etc.

Well, sorry to sink your boat, but I've taken my own food (ranging from fast food, to take away to salad etc) to many, many hotels. Ranging from 2* to 5* in UK, Amsterdam and US, whenever I get sick of the hotel food itself. So....... I even asked for a knife from the front desk in one of them - with groceries in my hand.

Hmm well perhaps in those cases they knew you already spent lots of money buying their food so they made an exception ;)

Just ask for a smoking room :)

Bread and peanut butter wouldn't need heat/refrigeration. Noodles just need hot water etc... Why soup?

I honestly couldn't believe no one said this sooner or more people, either eat out or take different damn food with you. Protein bars, bread, cereal, whatever, if you're going around in london (or really any town) you'llpass a shop that sells bread, milk, cereal, a whole lot of junk and a ton of other things, not to mention lots of restaurants, fast food places all at any price range you want really.

Same, i never have eaten dinner at the hotel i stayed out. Always eat out or bring food back, from sandwiches to burgers, fish and chips and even a kebab.

I've never been asked to not bring in food or whatever to my room....but then again I've only done it a few times :)

Maybe you're confusing 'groceries' with 'hookers in high-class hotel' :p

Or perhaps hotels just want your business.

I've carried a pizza straight through reception at a hotel within 5 minutes of checking in. Got a "Good evening." from the receptionist and went straight up to my room. I was staying for one night.
