hey guys, got a powercolor x1800 xt the other day, seems a good card, but i'm getting this weird left to right interference thing on my tft. seems like a refresh rate problem, but it is set to 60 like normal. anyone else had this or know of a fix?

Just put mine in (powercolor x1800xt 512mb), and on starting, there are some flickers across the screen.
They seemed to be like a band of red/blue randomly appearing across the screen, stretching from one side to the other.
I am using a 19" CRT, so any ideas anyone?

Can you get a photo of it? Sounds like faulty RAM to me.

How do you mean? Is it blurry? Press Auto on your TFT if so, or if it is a CRT, degauss it.

its like a weird strobing thing, picture is okay but has this herringbone look running in the background, i dont think its the tft as never happened with my 6800gt. it is really noticable at times, the blue of the ocuk forum really shows it up.

I have a feeling this is my TFT giving me this problem, but seeing as I got the PowerColour3D X1900XT which I guess loads of other people are about to get........In 2d and 3d on certain shades of block colour (only noticable on areas of solid colour) I get a shimmering - almost like a very faint interference pattern or very faint checkerboard effect. If i adjust the gamma/ contrast/brightness on either the card (via CCC) or the monitor I can get the colour to 'lock down' to a solid colour but the problem will shift to another area of the screen (with a slight different shade of colour). As the problem seems to move when I adjust my TFT colour/gamma/brightness I assuming this isnt a problem caused by the X1900 but a prob with my monitor, although this didnt happen on my X800XT?

I posted that in another thread, I think this sounds like the problem you are having too?

I get this with my Connect3D X1900xtx as well. On dark backgrounds I get a faint digaonal pattern that seems to 'move' from left to right.

This only happens with Catalyst 6.3 drivers though. If I change back to Cat 6.2 the problem goes away and dark backgrounds look normal. That suggests it is a driver issue, rather than a hardware fault.

If you are running Cat 6.3, try changing the driver to see if this works for you.

gonna try the 6.2s now, i'll let you know if it clears up for me.

EDIT:
mea98rm, you are the man :D

i really thought it was a hardware issue, i should have tried other drivers straight away but not having used this card before and being the type of fault it was made me think hardware.

i'm a bit concerned that i may be restricted on drive updates in the future, i'll have to check the official ati site and see if many other are getting this problem with the 6.3s. hopefully if loads of people have this weirdness it'll be sorted in the 6.4s.

Glad I good help. I thought it was a hardware issue too at first, and only changed the drivers around as a last resort before returning the card back to OCUK.

This is actually the first forum where I have seen anyone else with a similar problem though.

I've just created a support ticket on the ATI website reporting the problem. If we all do that, hopefully it will make them aware of the issue (if they aren't already), and they will fix it in Catalyst 6.4.

Mmm... Maybe it only happens on certain hardware combinations. For reference, I have:

Tagan 580u15 psu
DFI nf4 sli-dr (6-23 bios)
Connect3D x1900xtx (stock speeds)
Opteron 146 @ 2.9 ghz
2gb corsair 3500ll
Viewsonic VX715 17" TFT monitor

On my machine, the only way to the stop the interference pattern from happening was to change the video driver back to Cat 6.2. Before changing the driver, I had tried changing the screen res and refresh settings in control panel and changing the settings on the monitor. I even tried swapping the DVI cable, using the other DVI output port and downclocking the cpu back to stock speed.

I haven't heard back from ATI yet - hopefully they will confirm it is only a driver issue. I don't want to return the card unless it really is broken, as I don't have another PCI-express card capable of running Battlefield 2 (which is pretty much the only thing I use the comp for nowadays!)

I've just upgraded from 6.2 to 6.3 cats and i'm getting this interference too

This is really wierd, it was absolutely fine on the 6.2's

EDIT: Gone back to 6.2's and the problem has dissapeared

I have a x1800xt and i get the interferience lines after i exit a game, or log into windows. It doesnt effect my games in anyway however, so unless it's really a fault on the card it's self im not too bothered.

On my Powercolor X1800XT 512mb i get a thin strip of black with red border flash u for a millisecond when the pc first starts up and when i open the CCC. The card runs all games perfect so i see no problem, i assumed it was just the software performing a brief test on the card.

Oh I get that - that is the driver redetecting the card, but I don't see any different colours etc whenI'm not switching to 3D mode or doing normal stuff.
