ive just formated my pc cause it was seriously cluttered

after i reinstalled ive been having a weird problem when i download. the file will save to my pc, then when i try to load it, it will come up with security blocks, if i unblock it and launch it says there is low memory or the cabinet file is corrupt.

ive tried to download differant files and i get the same problem.

info:

running official XP PRO
when i was installing i put the motherboard drivers on first, then graphics, then antivirus, i then did a defragment, then i shutdown, plugged in my second harddrive, done an full virus check on it to make sure it was clean. then i installed my bt internet software, rebooted, defragmented, rebooted then loaded the internet, tried to download msn messenger and got this error

one thing i can think of that might be a possible cause is when i formated, i took my hard drives out, placed them ontop of the pc, installed my floppy drive ive been meaning to fit for a while, then fitted the hd's back, and just plugged in the master hd to save the wrong one getting formated

That sounds strange?
Anyhow maybe it was a faulty re-install?

I would try a fix and see if that sorts it for you, make a restore point just in case.

How to go about Repairing Windows XP
1. Put your Windows XP Install CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Reboot your computer.
3. Let your system boot off of the CD.
4. Let the Setup go through the first part of the Installation procedure.
5. When you come to the screen in which it says "Welcome to Setup." press Enter to Setup Windows XP.
6. Press F8 to agree to the End User License.
7. Let the Setup search your system for previous versions of Windows.
8. When the Setup is finished searching your system, select your Windows XP Installation and press the R key on your keyboard to start the Repair Procedure.

This is the part that might make you nervous . The Setup will delete all major system files and then replace them with new copies.

You will have to download all of the updates from Microsoft Windows Update again because it replaces the files.

Don't worry, your user data is still intact. Nothing has been lost, nothing has been deleted. Your data is safe, just the OS has been repaired, so relax.

There is nothing to worry about as long as you follow the steps to repairing Windows XP.

thanks for the reply mate.

i just did the repair install, tried to download again and im getting the same problem. i tried downloading to my second hard drive too and i get the same error

im not sure of this is correct but i *think* i recall something about it might be the motherboard firewall, (this is if u have a mobo firewall) im not sure, but i remember seeing something like that and as soon as the person turned the mobo firewall off, all was well!
good luck mate,

Chris

sorry for digging this up but i was doing a bit of searching and noticed i never replied to the guys question

my board is an asus a8ne and the firewall is Nvida

ahh

nvidia firewall is weird, i installed it once to see what its like, removed it quickly afterwards!

many people report strange things happening (when they're going round the twist!) with this firewall..
