Weird Sattelite

@Spawn - Sorry, won't be the ISS at 10pm - the ISS would be eclipsed at this time of night (that's why you only see it just after dusk/just before dawn). Besides, ISS typically takes about 4-5 minutes to cross from horizon to horizon, though that depends on the elevation, obviously.

If you saw the ISS tonight you also saw the docked shuttle and 2 astronauts at work.
Not unless you have x-ray vision*, and a telescope. :p :D

* Or are adept at looking through windows from 200 miles away.

Now this is weird. I can see two of them now.

On the same horizontal plane about 10 inches apart (in perspective, obviously not in realy life).

can anyone else?

2nd one doesnt seem quite as bright but certainly flashes in almost exactly the same way

Hmmm yeh i think your right but saying that...its bugging me as to what this thing was. Any ideas??. From what i can remember, it was straight above me and it just shot across the sky like a bullet. At first i thought it could be the shuttle or the ISS but surely they wouldnt be moving that fast...hmm

Iridium Flare? They travel fast but not bullet across the sky fast, most probably a meteor.

It could have been an Iridium flare.

It could have been an Iridium flare.

Got me stumped there, dunno what that means but i shall google for it:p.

Hmmm first link i got was oakley sunglasses:D:D...but seriously just found some info on it and it seems like your right..well both you and Vader:)...thanks for clearing that up. Interesting that i saw it though, not something u see everyday i suppose.

There has been a lot of talk of meteors in the last two days... I'd be inclined to go long the idea of Irdium Flare personally though.

edit: Actually looks too small here...

I think it was back in the 90's Iridum launched a massive fleet of satellites to provide celular communications, they went bust and the satellites remain.
In orbit everynow and again they catch the sunlight and "flare" which we see as brief extreme brightening of the satellite.

I;ve seen it seceral times and love it :) you see it in the distance as a dim fast travelling satellite, keep watching and at some point in it's traverse of the sky it suddenly intensifies briefly then dims again :)

Just looked out my loft window and I now see two of these silvery red flashing things in the sky.

Whats going on...

That looks somewhat like the thing I can see

This is an Iridum Flare, notice the lines coming off of the glare.
