Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

I have realised today that I prefer Gateron Milky Yellow over the Oil Kings…

I have 40 spares left over and put them in the Q1 (Number 0-9, A-Z) and found the noise to be really on point, very pebble like sound.

A 2nd thing I’ve noticed, and I picked up from my Nuphy Keyboard is that putting a tactile switch on the Space Bar is actually quite nice. It makes the typing experience with that slight difference using the thumb more interesting.

So now I’ve ordered more Gateron Milky Yellow for the rest of the keys now.

Plus, bonus that the RBG in the Q1 can come through now, whereas it was blocked by the Oil Kings.

Just a heads up RE65 Alu edition with brass external weight should be coming in the last week of December if anyone is interested. Amazing value for this, RGB, brass weight, 65% layout and hotswap for sub 250.

Anyone grab a Space65 on extras drop yesterday? I grabbed another space65, Darth Vader colourway :D. Was gonna go for the Mecha-01 but i think the novelty wore off lol.

GMMK PRO
Wuque Studio WS Quartz switches
AVX Works FR4 plate
Durock V2 stabs
KBDfans 'Chaos Origins' quartz/granite wrist rest

snip...

That is nice looking board. That wrist rest is certainly a nice looking piece. Personally in two minds if I should get a wrist rest but I don't really feel like I need one.

Has been a busy couple of days for me getting various deliveries, some more switches and a few extra goodies.

Picked up my JJW Play Trays which are just super cute and the anno finish on them is just perfect.

Then had this massive haul of stuff arrive on Friday

Which meant I could finally finish of the FROG and give her a new and hopefully her final set of key caps (nicePBT Elderberry).

So have ordered a bunch more switches including more Gateron CJ's, EV-01 Linears and AEBoards Raed V2's.

On top of that I have also ordered some custom plates to be cut for a board, I will have to wait until Feb for that but hey it is only a month really.

I'm running gat reds on my gmmk pro but would like to switch to a tactile or a stiffer actuation.

I keep getting a few keys double pressing too and I have swapped to qmk so i think it's those switches specifically

Is Glorious Panda my best option (or at least the best easily obtainable option) if I'm looking for stiff tactile switches?

Looking for something between Gateron Greens (clicky, 60g(?) actuation force) and Kailh Box Heavy Yellows (linear, 70g actuation force), Glorious Panda with its 67g actuation force seems to slot in between these two.

Also what's the actual actuation force on Gateron Greens? I'm getting conflicting info on this, I've checked few places and it's either 60g, 65g, or 80g, I'm currently typing on it and to me it feels like it's closer to 60g, I have another keyboard with Heavy Yellows so I can compare the two, and it doesn't feel as stiff as the Yellows.

tl;dr: recommend me some tactile switches with actuation force of 60-70g?

Check out the U4Ts, consider a spring swap too.

Linear gang myself but I'd probably try Drop Holy Panda or U4T for tactile.

I dont rate the Glorious ones at all tbh, much prefer the Drop Pandas or even the newer Panda X. If you can get your hands on some TTC Holy pandas they are really good too but require a little bit of lubing to get rid of the spring or leaf ping (cant remember which it has). HP's are pretty much the go to for long pole tactiles though if thats what you want.

For proper stiff tactiles though you wanna try some White Jades which are obtainable now from a UK shop.

Nice.

The stabilizers are what are used for the longer keys to prevent them wobbling when you press down on them. typically your spacebar, enter, backspace and longer shift keys will have them.

The insulation will go inside the spacebar (underneath) and will try to help dampen down any hollowness from it and give it a deeper, richer sound profile.

But certainly does look like a nice starter kit to build. Will be nice to see it when it is finished.
