Well my build is ready. Want to pull the trigger but would appreciate a once over before I drop £1,7

It makes booting about a second faster at best. :p

Normal SSD's are still quick enough, it won't make loading noticeably quicker besides benchmarks really.

Well windows off a decent SSD is always going to be quick - my 850 booted into Windows in about 6-7 seconds whereas the 950 does it in 3-4. It really is astonishingly fast.

Obviously I upgraded my cpu at the same time so I can't really say how much of that boost is down to a better processor. Games-wise, it depends on the game but I have done a direct comparison between Wow and team fortress 2 on both drives using the same processor and again there's a clear difference.

Don't get me wrong we're talking marginal gains here but this IS overclockers right?

I would have gone with the m2, most people who say its not worth it or is only for a quick boot have not put there steam origin and uplay library on one.

Both myself and wife have a 500gb samsung 950 pro in our systems.
Heavily modified (200+ mods) Skyrim loads 10 seconds faster (using Tesedit loads in all plugins within 8 seconds)
Fallout 4 with 147 mods loads 17 seconds faster.
Sims 3 Heavily modded boots to live game with 14 seconds.
The Division loading from character screen to in game (compared to a sata ssd) 9 seconds faster.

Those were the tests we did before getting my wife a 950 as well computers exactly the same except for storage.

If you ran the vanilla version of Skyrim and Fallout 4 etc you would probably see the same load times as an 850 EVO. I guess the larger file size when loading heavily modded games gives the 950 PRO the edge.

Agreed, at the moment M2 seems to still be in the "fringe" technology section but if you have the money whether it be for boot up or steam library it is the icing on the cake for a games machine, on the other hand we just got access to the 961 from samsung which leave even the 950 in the dust lol.

The retail i7-6700k doesn't come with a stock cooler or paste. The reason for suggesting retail over OEM is the extended warranty. OEM has a 1 year warranty. Retail has 3 years. Saving £8 but losing 2 years warranty seems like a false economy to me.

^This, i had to do a RMA with Intel as my 4930k died after 2 years use. They are replacing it though, so i'm glad i went retail!
