It seems my PS3 looks to have given up to the ghost.

There I am playing GTA4 and then the screen goes black, I turn the console off and back on again to find it's just not displaying what BD-ROM i've inserted. Doesn't seem to be spinning them at speed.

I've tried some CD's same problem. Even tried all my games.

I've had it since launch day(March 23rd), this isn't acceptable. I just don't know what to do. £425 down the drain.

I dont see why not, the Xbox comes with a 3 year warranty so I dont see why Sony shouldnt match this if they are soo confident in their product.

A 3yr warranty only on the 3rrod, other faults are still 1yr, the reason for the extension on that particular fault is because they admitted every unit shipped was faulty. The PS3s failure rate, while still not great, is a fraction of that which the early 360s boasted so it isn't yet possible to argue that every PS3 has a faulty blu-ray drive, just more than there should be.

Even after 13months?

Will they still be interested?

Phone them, say how disapointed you are with the product and the fact that you have lost a bit of confidence with the Sony brand.

Tell them that IT IS ONLY 13 months old and Sony should have quality products that last for longer etc etc etc.

Demand as a gesture of goodwill they pickup, fix and deliver back the unit for free. (or at least fix and send back free).

But remember to be nice on the phone, no one likes to speak to a raging tosser.

No swearing please.

A new BD drive wont be cheap though will it? I shouldn't really have to lay out a penny.

The majority of electronic products only come with a 1 year warranty, its a sad fact but a fact nonetheless. If you forked out for a £2000 Samsung/Sony/Panasonic television on a well known website (that doesn't offer additional warranty without extra cost) and it died after 13 months you would still need to pay for repair/a new one.

[EDIT] Had a quick look around, the indication is the repair cost will be £75 or less if they won't do it for free (still worth arguing). Sorry dude, tis a pain.

If they don't repair it you can always buy a Blu Ray diode and repair it yourself.

I'm pretty sure someone off here did that.

I don't really want to go inside it. Nor am good with electronics. I'll phone them tomorrow or try and email them somehow.

I posted this in another thread, im not sure how it works or anything.

Thanks that's a life saver, but wont they know what date it stopped working? And aren't I supposed to have the cover before something malfunctions?

Can't you claim repairs after the 12 months? Doesn't the sales of goods act claim the product has to be fit for purpose, i.e reliable for 14 months or so?

Dont know if you read my post above Tupac, i suggest you read it.

Working within a similiar trade with Sony & Panasonic i know how these things work. Better to try and get it for free surley ?

Thanks for that, you don't have to call them, if you dont wanna :p

But I may just use the online chat thingy they have open from 1-5pm tomorrow.

I think yir being a bit paranoid there hehe

You can't be too sure these days. But then again the T&C's of the constant play doesn't state it has to be in working order before paying the monthly fee. Not from what I saw anyway.

Be warned: if your system's a launch one or so (and it sounds like it from that 425 quid mention) you won't get it back for weeks and weeks from Sony support. Sony no longer develops such consoles and support for them has a massive backlog as they try to get the entire thing back to you the way it was when you bought the machine.
