Well...

it's just not displaying what BD-ROM i've inserted.

My PS3 did the same, as has a few friends. The problem that plagued the PS2 seems to be back, everything works great, then the laser/drive just dies for no apparent reason. I think I owned about 5 PS2s in total all died due to this problem :)
I phoned sony, made a fuss and they picked mine up and replaced / repaired it. Took a while though.

I phoned sony my psp was broke about 18months old.

Sony "When did you buy it sir"

Me "Er can't really remeber about 6monhts ago"

Sony "ok no problem, whats the serial code"

me "serial code"

Sony "no problem a refurb unit will be at your door tomorrow"

:D

Give them a bell.

But did they take your old one away first? Didn't they even want proof of purchase?

All this talk about the problems of the last gen playstations - I have had none!!

I had a launch-ish playstation for like 4-5 years and it was all good, nothing wrong with it, and I had a launch PS2 for about the same aswell - they were brilliant and never put a foot wrong.

Suprise suprise, the only console to go faulty for me is the lovely xbox 360 :D

You were very very lucky then, Sony consoles have always had laser issues I remember friends having to use the ps1 turned upside down to get a game to run and the original ps2's stopped reading cd based games after a while then when GT4 arrived on DL dvd it really sent a lot of machines to an early grave.

I have worked in games retail since the 16 bit era in one form or another and have seen so many faults from all companies that you just become jaded to it all, the only console that was bullet proof was the original xbox it was like a tank (thomson drives aside)

That's just shear unluck :p In the five+ years that I've had mine, nothing's gone wrong. I've never heard any of my mates saying their PS2 died either :/

I don't think its bad luck to be honest, every single person I know that had a PS2 had laser-related problems at one time or another. :(
There were multiple lawsuits against Sony for this problem IIRC.

Well from what I've read online it's a rarity that all 3 diodes should die together, but it wont read BD/CD/DVD Roms :(

Phone them, say how disapointed you are with the product and the fact that you have lost a bit of confidence with the Sony brand.

Tell them that IT IS ONLY 13 months old and Sony should have quality products that last for longer etc etc etc.

Demand as a gesture of goodwill they pickup, fix and deliver back the unit for free. (or at least fix and send back free).

But remember to be nice on the phone, no one likes to speak to a raging to[/COLOR]

my trust old ps1 is still working fine :) destruction derby 2 and tekken 2 for the win! (first two games i bought i think)

it's got fag burns on it, packed with dust, the cd spinning mechanism is cracked, but it works perfectly

Whats the verdict then Tupac ?. Any news ?

I've just emailed Sony, if no joy I'll give them a call tomorrow.
