What 42" TV?

Can't answer at present, will have a look in the manual when I get home. My router is right next to my tv so I opted for the quicker option of plugging the cable in directly.

As for the usb hd, you need to have one between 160Gb and 2Tb in size and it is automatically wiped when you register the hd to the tv.

Awesome stuff physichull, can't wait to get mine at the end of the month. :D
Question:
Whats the deal with putting a wi-fi dongle in this?
Every dongle I've used in the past has installed some kind of software on the machine (computer) I'm using it with, so whats the deal with this. Had a quick look around but never found a satisfactory answer.
The thought of hiding yet another cable through my lounge is far less appealing than its wi-fi alternative.

you will have to buy a panasonic dongle designed for the telly, they will be availible around may time and should retail for about £69-79.

tbh id just buy a homeplug kit and use that, as i prefer wired connections for streaming.

Richer Sounds is showing a couple of G10s left for only £640 which is pretty awesome. The G20 looks very tempting if you can stretch to it though, with all those picture controls and the THX mode sadly missing from the UK G10.

Does the Panasonic G20 handle non-widescreen conventional tv (4:3)? Is there a screen size adjustment or is that format now so outdated that they don't bother? If there is a 4:3 screen ratio setting, how are the 'borders' down the sides presented - black, grey or other?

it does 4;3 yes. the borders are a blacky grey color.

The G20 is fantastic. Really pleased with mine so far. Got a good deal and does everything I need.

The intelligent frame creation option makes films seem super smooth (perhaps too smooth!), but also a little 'odd' to look at. Need to play further.

Aye it does. Sort of looks too real, in a disconcerting way. There is a reason the film industry chose and still sticks with 24fps :). I love it for sport and documentaries, that sort of stuff.

if all i do is play ps3, xbox and want to watch the occasional bluray, is there any point me spending the extra on a g20 as opposed to the g10?

so i should get a g10. Is there any particular model thats the best? and can i run my pc through it as well

G10 is the model. Now choose your size. You might see a letter after the G10, but that is just the area code. In the UK we get the G10B. Yep you can hook up a PC to it through VGA or HDMI.

Bit of development on the Richer Sounds price match malarky!
Right so I'm all excited about getting a G20 tomorrow, spoke to a fella at Richer Sounds today to make sure my local stockists had one and could they hold it for me and it turns out their price match policy is contingent on the price I found cheapest (rain forest £839) plus the price of 5 years cover. If that is less then they'll match it.
Kind of feel deflated now thinking I was gonna walk out the store with one at that price. :(

What have you guys found are the best deals with warranty inc? (Trust details plz)
Suppose the alternative is get one of the rain forest and arrange separate cover but meh!!!
Some help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated guys for a very impatient soon to be Panasonic G20 owner.

Check this post, the Warranty can be gotten from Panasonic directly for about £100~ so I don't know if they'll price match that?

Thanks for that mate that's great news, will call tomorrow to confirm.
Not sure what the Panasonic in store price is, but I know my local stockists are doing 5 years free. I'm guessing it'll be around the ubiquitous £1099 but hopefully if all goes well I'll get one for £939 with 5 years.

Cheers buddy. :)

Edit: Just read the thread, did you manage to speak to them mate? I'll be calling them first thing so I'll post the outcome.

Not yet, I plan to call them tomorrow

Afaik it's open from 9-5:30

Update: Called Panasonic at lunch today and they confirmed the above price, £97.06 for a 42 inch screen for a 5 year extended warranty. They said they'd do it on a case by case basis but when asked if I could buy it he said it shouldn't be a problem, they would just need the serial numbers etc.

Some caveats:

  • The extended warranty must be purchased within the first 11 months of owning the TV I think
  • The warranty does not cover damage caused by the user
  • It covers parts, call outs etc, basically if a fault develops on the tv unit
  • It's non transferable, so if you sell the TV the warranty can't be used by the new owner. However if you yourself change address they can facilitate this. For me I will wait until I am in my new address before I register the warranty
