I know it's still early days but this is by far the worst WC I have seen

Crap lifeless games, not been an exciting one yet

The bloody relentless noise and stadiums with no atmosphere

empty seats at games

poor TV coverage, drab presenters and the ITV HD fiasco

I do hope to be proved wrong as the tournament progresses

I hate to agree because I was really looking forward to the World Cup but it has been terrible so far. The only genuinely good performance so far was by Germany, with Brazil looking decent in the second half tonight. I just hope Spain are brilliant tomorrow and make things a bit more interesting. Lets hope that the second round of games are better now that teams aren't so afraid of losing.

If it continues like this it will go down as one of the most boring World Cups of all time!

Games haven't been that bad. Mexico could have easily been a 4-0 game. Argentina's first game would have been 6/7-0 if it wasn't for a superb performance from the Nigerian keeper. North Korea put in a fantastic defensive performance tonight and Germanys game could have easily been a 10 goal thumping.

In saying that though the 0-0 games are terrible. The Algerian game was one of the most dreadful things I have ever witnessed. That bloody noise "but it's culture" there is no atmosphere at the games at all and the only reason the vuvuzelas are there is down to the fact that africa simply doesn't have enough football heritage of it own in order to create any atmosphere.

I haven't seen all the games, but from the games I've seen.

Bored.

5live was right tonight, I think 32teams is too many.

Fair enough it's good because it's long and there is always footie to watch, but when it's really poor teams what is the point..

It's like watching league 2 football

Have to agree. I was going to sky+ every game every day and watch them back to back after work, but that was quickly abandoned. I get the impression everyone is uptight about expectations. Only Germany seemed to be gelling properly so far.

Same old story, just like the last World Cup. Most of the games are not that great to watch, especially the first round matches as no one wants to lose their first game. Things will get more exciting when teams are forced to go for it in order to progress.

Its just a shame that England's game against the US was the first on,e and not the last group game, am sure it would have been very different. ;)

Another thing I've noticed is how few of the top players are performing. Rooney was bad for England, Ribery was terrible for France, Kaka looked sloppy today, Ronaldo wasn't much better, and Sneijder was quiet for Holland too. I don't know if it's down to lots of games played this season and they are tired or if they are getting extra attention from defenders.

absolutly agree with this thread!!!

somehow this world cup is just getting duller and duller for some reason. i only watched like 20 mins of the brazil match before turning off the televison. :/

i think its got something to do wid the advertising somehow....

the more they advertise the world cup the more it gets dimmer

just my personal opinion btw

We've had 32 teams for a while now though, haven't we? And I don't remember any of the previous three tournaments being this boring, although that might just be because I can't remember...

That being said, I'm not sure if it's the complete lack of atmosphere at the games, poor football being played or just typical 'first match' caution amongst the teams that's made this WC feel like it's already been going for a month.

Those sodding trumpets aren't helping matters though. I've still not managed to sit throughout an entire half let alone an entire game without reaching for the mute button quickly followed by the power button.

Totally agree. Was going to try and watch as much as possible but the France-Uruguay game made me almost lose the will to live. :/

The worrying thing is that i've watched/listened to every game in full so far. I've become more used to the vuvuzelas now, so I always have one game on the tv/pc whilst doing other stuff.

I agree it's not been brilliant though. FRA-URG and POR-COI both bored me to tears, whilst several other games have lead to me muting the sound, not turned a game off yet though.

Like everyone else, i'm hoping Spain do something tomorrow, but then again, we were all hoping Brazil would perform today. There are still a lot of very interesting games to go though, and I have no doubts things will pick up by the end of the week.

I was just thinking this too! I agree with this.

There really is 0.000000000 atmosphere there at all. Just because there are plastic pipes blowing does not mean that it is full of atmosphere. It's just white noise which for the moment is drowning out some of the worst commentary I've ever heard.

Got to say North Korea were excellent today and the Nigerian Keeper has had one of the best individual performances thus far.

Portugal v Ivory Coast wasn't too bad, but a draw again. However it was a fast paced attacking game for the most part. I was disappointed not to see goals in that one (and indeed in many of the other games).

A rank outsider to win this? Or is it just first game/first round safe play?

This is exactly right. Teams are playing not to lose rather than to win at the moment. The spectacle will improve as the tournament advances.

theyre not 'poor' teams though

they have played well to earn the right to be there. i suppose youd class NKR as a 'poor' team yet they played amazingly well tonight against the world number 1's.

seems to be us english people thinking we are better than everyone again and judging teams as poor without knowing anything about them.

taking teams out isnt going to make it much more interesting. if anything we would just lose the opportunity for great games like tonights.

missed out big time then, was one of the best games of the tournament so far...

too many people just looking at scorelines. ive seen little praise for the argies game but that was excellent too. some great attacking football
