Got insurance on my Mum's car on my 17th birthday and had my licence a few months later after some lessons :D

Then the day I hit 21 I started lessons on a 500cc bike to get my cat A licence (passed mod 2 2 days ago! :D)

I've got my test booked for a couple of weeks. I'm 17, almost 18. I wasn't too fussed about starting lessons right when I turned 17 so I left it 10 months or so.

I got my provisional at 17 but waited until after uni to learn properly and take my test. Wouldn't have wanted a car at uni anyway and if I'd passed my test at 17/18 and then had a 3 year gap for uni I'd probably have mostly forgotten all I'd learned anyway so that was the logic behind it.

Dad took me out on my 17th birthday (it was almost my last when he tried to make me go on a busy roundabout :p). Passed 10 weeks later on my first attempt with 3 minors. Never owned my own car though and haven't driven for about 4 years, but when I do want to drive I'll be able to hop straight in, not to mention it was a lot cheaper to learn 6 years ago than it is now.

Learned to drive at 18, and then got my first car at 25. Was weird driving for the first real time 7 years after I passed my test.

Passed just after my 20th birthday. Wanted to get it finished & some experience before I completed my degree.

Turned out that I needed a license to get my first job, so came in handy.

Was my decision correct? Or should I have changed lanes regardless of the guy behind me?

personally, i'd have cancelled my indicator, slowed down and given him a few seconds to pass me, if he was still not commited to moving lanes and passing me, i'd have indicated again and moved lanes.

Curious thought, anyone else watch their dad drive as a kid wand pay close attention to gear stick and clutch movement then, when you got home, played pretend car with your bed, dashboard = pillow, gear stick = 15cm ruler stuffed between the mattress and steering wheel = Some other flat toy?

That's how I got an understanding of "driving" early on :p

....no lol

as far back as i can remember, my dad had automatics. i used to practice in my mums car.

never really took any interest in the controls of a car until i had left school.
