Hi,

Overclocking basically from 2.4 to 3.

I'll start off with the system spec if it helps.

Mobo: P5W DH Deluxe.
RAM: 4x GeIL 1GB PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2.
CPU: Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB).
PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700w.

Now i jumped into the BIOS and enabled the clocking speed to manual, now from what i understand, you up the fsb until you can no longer boot into windows and when you cannot boot into windows, up the vcore voltage?

Well I'm now sitting at 3ghz (2.97ghz).

Should I be doing anything else? I have downloaded Super PI and ran it through all the calculations and it hasn't failed.

I feel like I'm missing something out, as thats too easy!

BTW, I haven't needed to up any voltages, just fsb?? and it seems stable!

Cheers,

Ben.

well it hasn't crashed or anything, running aoc on full whack, it's made one hell of an improvement to the speed!!

chips will go up a certain amount on stock volts, after that you need to up the vcore.

I was about to post that you should use a programme like prime, rather than pi for stress testing, they are more harsh on your cpu, apparently.

once you turn your fsb up and it fails the test, up the vcore until it is stable. you don't need to run prime for 24 hours after every adjustment, if it fails, it'll usually fail fairly soon.

if you get to a stage where changes in vcore don't make the chip stable, the next step is to up the nb by .1 or .2V.

This is, I imagine, all in the guide anyway, but I hope that's a nice easy summary.

actually i dont really talk about what to do with voltages, just what each ones does.. I think as each CPU / Motherboard combo is so different its pretty much something you have to get a feel of

Cheers fella's .

So if my computer stays stable just by upping the fsb to get my 3ghz, do i just leave it at that, as in leave all the other bits alone.)

(Sorry I'm from the motors forum :p)

If it works as it is, and you don't want it to be any better, then yes, leave it.

If it ain't broke... and all that.

Lmao,

Okey, I'll see if i can push it to 3.2 tomorrow :D , I can see me upping the vcore this time :)

I'm a bit edgy with oc'ing . My last rig caught on fire and died a flamey death :( .

Seems so easy with this board!

thanks again!

well from personal experience with a few Q6600 and from other peoples experience here getting to 3.2 on 99% of Q6600 is painless with 1/2 decent motherboard.. you may have some issues past 3.2 depending on your Q6600..

Maybe post a screeny of CPUz / Coretemp and Prime95 going and your system spec and am sure we can help get those Mhz up :)

It's an E6600, I was going to buy a Q6600 next payday but seeing how much it's improved by overclocking it, I think I'll hold off now :D .
