Death Star or Mount Doom, it depends on the day.
A sense of originality is really hard to come by these days. Long gone are the days when I'm sitting down to watch something am I ever thinking that was an entirely original concept.

Therefore, in your opinion, what would you say are the most original films you've ever seen?

Granted, opinions will be based on the measurements of time as the old days tend to hold a greater sense of originality. But question is, how far do we have to go back?

For me.

Adaptation 2002 is one of the most original film I've ever seen.

I’d have to say Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Being John Malkovich both also written by Charlie Kaufman.

Off the top of my head, these stand out as unique for when I watched them:

Momento
The Blair Witch Project

Inception
The Matrix
Beetlejuice
Gremlins
ET
Groundhog Day
LA Confidential
Memento
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Alien/Aliens
Dawn/Day of the Dead
Enemy Mine
The Blues Brothers
The Shawshank Redemption
Schindler's List
Res Dogs/Pulp Fiction
Star Wars
One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest
Shogun Assassin
It's a Wonderful Life
The Terminator
Back to the Future
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Monty Python Life of Brian
Falling Down
The Elephant Man
Blade Runner
The Truman Show

Don't know if i'm doing this right, but at the time when these movies came out, they were jaw dropping to me.

The amazing adventures of adel st blanc

(Think it's called that)

Amelie
The Matrix
Marvel films (love the links and planning over so many years)

lots of good ones on those lists but what are we considering original? Original at the time of it's release (die hard, rocky etc) but has now been done to death? or is it Momento, pans labyrinth, wes anderson movies etc which are still pretty unique to date.

I only say this as some if the movies mentioned aren't anywhere close to original. There's also a fair bit of crossover even for original films because of genres.

Matrix
Dark City
Blade Runner
Ghost in the shell etc

My intepretation to the question was films which were like what the...

If we are looking back at memorable films which blew you away, I agree with this list. Although I would add:

Dirty Harry - genre defining, ultra violent for its time, a cop who bends the rules.
Robocop - such a brilliant film, up there with Blade Runner as a glimpse to the future.
Seven - shaped loads of crime thrillers to this day.
The Exorcist - A horror film which makes you think it could happen...
