What are you doing for Valentines?

R420LA6X2/4MNA, you're the one in the right, she's just being selfish (big time). This is a girls opinion too, that's awful behaviour.

Sure, it's nice to have a night in together but why can't she wait til next weekend? Prices won't be over-inflated and you won't be bumping elbows with everyone else doing the same thing in restaurants.

Family ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS come first so fair play to you for not standing your daughter up :)

Thanks for that, its nice to know that I'm not actually wrong as I was starting to think I was!

I've managed a compromise, my daughter is going for a sleep over at my sisters (which she rarely gets the chance to do) so she's more than happy without me having to in any way push her nose out (not that I was going to mind)

Isn't valentines supposed to be where singles can send a valentines card anonymously if they like to a person they fancy but otherwise were to shy to bring up the subject.

Its like couples going out to nightclubs, isnt it missing the point?

Pretty much my understanding of it....

Sorry but you need to find yourself another girlfriend who would quite rightly realise that when you have kids, they come first above everything.

Increasingly, I am finding myself thinking the same. - Thanks. :)

Missus's flowers just arrived, must say the local florist has done a wonderful job

They are in a foot high margarita glass, should come in handy at later date :p

Gonna wait for the kids to go to bed and then try to hit on the Mrs whilst she's watching "Dancing on Ice". If my attempts to woo her don't result in me seeing any action then I'll retire to the bathroom to whack one out.

Who says romance is dead?

Going to work and then going home and worrying about upcoming driving test.

Good luck mine's soon too! (eek)

Was planning on a girly night out but one of my friends cancelled because she has a migraine. was trying to work out a different location with my other friend but she's just discovered she's overdrawn so can't afford it :(

looks like a night in with a movie!!

I don't bother with Valentines anymore, haven't had a good one since I split with my ex fiancee 5 years ago.

my boss was really sweet and bought me a pink rose yesterday as a sort of "happy valentines/thanks for being such a wonderful assistant" lol.

Pretty much my understanding of it....

Exactly how I have thought about it in the past. There is value in it for people in relationships however, winter can be a bit of a depressing time and having something to look forward to after a couple of months of darkness and low temperatures can really help.

Can I have a cookie for being over-analytical?

:edit: Agreed with couples and night clubs, never really got that.

I was just observing that I've not read here or heard elsewhere of a single person sending a valentines to another single person.

Its fine for couples to send valentines but sending a valentines card to a person you're in a relationship is like asking knowing what your're getting for Christmas. There is no surprise.

Is there a stigma attached to being single? Its like no one is telling their story of sending someone they hardly know a valentines. Personally I don't give a monkeys what to people in a relationship do on a valentines. It would be infinitely more interesting to hear from a true singleton who has used valentines for its intended purpose to break the ice.

Me? I'm single, funnily enough I got a card last year from a married women (long story), but this year, heck I don't know anyone I want to give a valentines to. Perhaps I need to get out more, but thats easier said than done if your single and unemployed living at home with parents.

Yeah according to the history its kind of about bringing people together. something about Roman Emperor Claudius II who ordered (allegedly) that young men remain single because married men didnt make good soldiers however a priest called Saint Valentine perfomed marriages in secret.

So when Valentine was found out he was thrown in jail and before he was executed he sent a letter to "his beloved" signing it as "from your Valentine"

megatron - just reading your post gave me an idea that i shouldve sent one to a guy i really like..Doh! although i did text him saying Happy Valentines Day lol

edit: interestingly on Wikipedia it says until 1969 the Catholic Church formally recognised 11 valentines days !!!
