What Are You Reading?

Beyond the Shadows by Brent Weeks, hopefully my Kindle will be here soon after I finish it and then I'm going to get started on the Peter Hamilton stuff which I've never read :)

currently re-reading the silmarilion by tolkien

Congratulations for even managing to get through it once. I've started it on three separate occasions and never again. It's right up there with the worst books I've ever tried to read, which is unfortunate given how much I enjoyed The Hobbit/LoTR.

Islands of the Damned by R Burgin - one of the minor characters featured in the tv show "The Pacific". He was in the same company as Eugene Sledge.

"More What if?" - Some interesting things in such as what would've happened if Socrates had been killed before he influenced Plato, what if Pilate hadn't ordered Jesus killed and what if Chamberlain has stood up to Hitler in 1938. Some nice essays.

Just finished "Fuhrer" by Allan Prior. A very nice book about the life of Adolf Hitler, written as a novel but drawing all it's main points from genuine history. A very engaging read and one I'd recommend.

Currently reading "Colour of Magic" by Terry Pratchett. Wanted to make a start on the discworld series but I can't say I'm enjoying this first book too much.

Prior to that I read "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss which I absolutely loved, can't wait for the 2nd part to come out.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - the story of a german girl's struggles through the second world war, narrated by Death. Finding it very good if a bit slow in parts.

Just finishing off 'The Reality Dysfunction' so I can stuck into 'The Evolutionary Void' both by Peter F Hamilton

The first 2 books aren't really a good representation of the rest of the series, but they're worth sticking out just to understand the Discworld. If you really can't be bothered, watch the Sky 1 adaptation.

Equal Rites (book 3) is a better read, then from Mort onwards they hit an awesome run. I can't recommend anything from Monstrous Regiment on though.

Superb book, I found it a little slow to start and the narration weird to get used to, but it ended up being one of the best books I've read in ages. :)

I'm currently reading Slash's autobiography, I'm insanely jealous and horrified in equal measures - what a life he's lead! :D
