Uncommon Valor - a hugely misunderstood film which back in '83 dealt with the highly undesirable topic of the US MIA POW's left behind in Vietnam but gets unfairly lumped in with the Chuck Norris/Rambo films of the era which deal with the same MIA issue, despite it being a polar opposite film to those virtual parodies.
It starred Gene Hackman, Fred Ward, Patrick Swayze and a fantastic crew of support actors who, due the great story by actor Cole Hausers dad - and directed by Rambo 1st Blood's director Ted Kotcheff - all get full fleshed out backstories so you actually care about them as they fail or succeed and the bittersweet ending is perfect. Sadly it's a film bypassed by many and it was poorly reviewed at the time (due the aforementioned Rambo/Norris films in the same time era) despite being a box office hit but it's my own personal little "Hidden Gem" full of endlessly quotable lines, great set pieces, real emotional trauma, great actors brining a great story to life creating what feels like "real" people (rather than actors playing) etc.
Aliens or Predator - it swaps every 3 seconds for me but, I mean, need I say any more?
