What bike for a giant at 6ft 8?

I am 6ft 8 and ride a 2003 RSV-R. I might look a bit of a *** on the bike but it fits pretty well. It certainly isn't as comfortable as a tourer or multi-purpose bike, but I'm happy to run 300 to 400 mile days on it.

I've been considering adding a 660 to my garage for a bit of alternative fun but haven't ridden one so can't tell you how they fit.

The issue I had when I tried both a 660 and a DRZ was that it felt like the seat was disappearing up my bumcrack and that it was going to eventually cut me in half!

First Gen RSV Mille's are physically large bikes. Worth looking at although insurance for a new rider may be a little on the steep side. Can be had for £1800 - £2500 for a good one.

Having said that and despite a few suggestions already in this thread, what are you actually going to be using the bike for?. Daily transport?. Occasional commute?. Weekend toy?. Would help to know in order to narrow down the suggestions.

Sorry for the delay in replying, having fun dealing with Sky at the moment trying to get it back up....

It's generally going to be an all rounder, used for getting around evenings and weekends, eventually commuting but also for long journeys, Liverpool to Glascow, Liverpool to Poole etc to see friends and family

Mille's are excellent mile eaters but only really at speed. Around town if you were going to do a lot of that, the clutch can be a pain. They are though, deceptively comfortable and running costs are comparable to a big Jap litre plus. I toured Scotland two up with luggage on my Mille and it was surprisingly comfortable.

However I can't help but think something like a Blackbird or ZX12R would be a more sensible option for runs like Liverpool to Glasgow. Only thing is a newly qualified biker is going to struggle to insure something of that size and performance. Maybe coming down a little and looking at smaller bikes would be a more sensible option. Whatever you look at though it needs to have a fairing. A naked bike would be ok up to a point but for long trips as you have described there's no reason not to get something with a fairing.

I know they are old hat but ZZR600's can be had for buttons these days and are big comfy mile munchers.

IMO @ 6'6 - These are the ones i'm considering. I'll be doing Swansea>Weymouth/Poole and back on regular basis.

Triumph Sprint.
Triumph Tiger 1050.
Honda Pan Euro ST1300
yamaha FJR1300

The leader at the moment is the FJR1300, so comfortable. height adjustable seat. Heated grips. height adjustable screen, (and aftermarket ones to make it taller)

Plenty of load space too

Bandit 1200 and jack the back end up with dog bones. Cheap to insure, will move your weight fine and won't scare you to death because they aren't the lightest thing. Plenty of torque so you don't have to rev the knackers off it. That said, whilst I fit on one fine I'm a 'shorty' at 6'4. I also fit on k1-2 Gsxr 1000 and ZZR1400. Busa was way too low for me though. Weird how riders of all sizes can somehow be comfortable on the same bike. The GSXR rider was about 10" shorter than I was.
