So its not been 6 weeks and a CPU i bought from the bay died on me

Paypal refused to help me get a claim, i thought paypal had 180 days of protection, anyways

I bought as new retail i9 9820x cpu from OCUK so I get the 3 years warranty

now this 7920x I have, every time i install it it keeps on forcing the PC on safe mode, tried 3 new mobos same issue (not set on force safe mode boot)

Can this chip be repaired? its 100% faulty im sure of it but it seems a shame to just bin it

Lastly the new chip i bought, its a i9 9820x, on CPUz under "name" it displays the chip as "i9 7900"

then under "specification" its states the name as "i9 9820x"

why is this?

i may take Paypal to small claims because i was physically told that purchases on the 180 day protection policy is only for not received and not as described

Have you spoken to the seller? Personally I'd reund you. If you have tried in mutiple boards I assume there are no other components?

You’re going out of your way to be vague and not supply relevant information which is resulting in people posting suggestions that unfortunately waste everyone’s time, combined with your previous post and your suggestion you would claim on your home insurance we’re going way off track.

You previously stated that it was an OEM chip, so the warranty is via whoever supplied the chip. Have you contacted the eBay seller as presuming if they are a company, they will need to sort out an RMA and not Paypal who are merely the payment processor. While we’re discussing Paypal and it’s ‘additional protection’, they will have clearly stated why they won’t help and it’s likely exactly as per the T&C’s. If you purchased the chip from an individual, then you need to deal with whatever company supplied it to them, hopefully they provided an invoice and hopefully warranty is transferable etc.

Assuming that the CPU was bought used and arrived functional, then the seller fulfilled their part of the deal. If it failed six weeks down the line, that's really just unfortunate and the risk you take when you buy used parts. It's silly to expect the seller to refund you six weeks later if they sent it out working. You could have done anything to it in that time and caused the failure youself (not saying you did, but in theory). Paypal's protection is clearly only there to cover you for items that are significantly not as described on arrival - not to provide you with a six-month warranty for everything you buy. That would be massively unfair on sellers (especially private ones). Of course, it would be nice for people to help with RMAs if they're able and the product's original warranty is still valid (any 7920X would still be under warranty with Intel for the original owner, assuming it's not delidded), but they're not obligated to.

As someone else has said, just return to intel?

I’ve only ever returned a chip once and they had it tested and replaced within a week. Didn’t even have to provide proof of purchase.

Unless it has been Delidded etc?
