Hi all,

Sorry for another PS3 thread  ... but,

I would like to get a PS3 around Christmas just really for the experience as I already have an X360.

But because my roots are in the PC (current rig QX6700 at 2.93GIG) and because I love to read/ learn about spec I am worried that the PS3's RSX will not be enough to keep up with the Xenos? Because of the fact it is based on the (7800GTX) and that after a while I’m going to be disappointed...

On the other hand the Cell BE is a power house and designed for floating point performance? Will this, or could this help the PS3 have, and do things that no other console can do? And help the RSX create really innovative content, or am I just looking too much into it and really the cell is just a powerful CPU...

Come on guys help me so what the PS3 has potential for...

It's a console, potential for playing games and video/audio (notably Blu-Ray), that just about sums it up.

Seriously, if you're expecting it to be somewhat better than a PC or 360 you'll be disappointed. (Not 'dissing' the PS3 here just saying it's just another console)

Good luck. :p

Blu-Ray & MGS4 is only reasons you would consider a PS3.

I certainly wouldn't say that. The PS3 has some potentially brilliant games coming out and it will definitely have others.
I'll also eat my hat if MGS4 is the best game released for the PS3 next year.

I aint seen any other game on PS3 i'd ever consider getting one for.. I always check the latest on Gametrailers never seen any good'uns :D

why are people concerned about the rsx all that does if final gfx tweaks as the cell can do nearly all of it if needed :s

i own both systems ps3 and 360 both are very good systems but as time goes on u will see less game ports when the ps3 becomes lead machine because it will be a lot harder to port from the ps3 to a less powerfull machine.

Developers will go with what they are most familiar with also who says the 360 is less powerful?

Still waiting on another console game to surpass Gears Of War, I'm sure UT3 will but that's coming out on 360 as well and I'm sure it'll look just as good.

your basing your assumptions on performance on a comparison with PC hardware

unfortunately by comparing it with PC hardware, your also comparing it with hardware that has to run in a windows environment.

Ive said it time and time again on here, ive got a £2,000 gaming PC, but its not the best platform for gaming. Windows is too full of buggy old code that microsoft doesnt know what to do with. MS programmers have gone on record saying that every new release of windows is just the old source code, with new stuff bolted on top. There so much stuff in there thats not needed, so much bloat

but nobody can remove it, because when they do stuff stops working. and MS has such a monopoly, theres no point on actually bothering about efficiency. Moores law will just keep the hardware up with the bloat.

Microsoft really need to just ditch windows, and re-write the whole thing from scratch. But because they dont actually need to, they wont

When apple releases a new OS, the code is more streamlined each time. New versions of OSX have even been known to use less space than the old ones ..

and this brings us onto the PS3. THe PS3 has a very similar hardware environment to the mac. Its a single platform, so that coders who code for it are dealing with a very specific hardware base. No need to worry about compatibility etc.. so everything can be more streamlined.

Given the same hardware as a PC, the PS3 given the right game properly optimized game could thrash the equivalent PC. And i think we'll see this on UT3. Im betting UT3 for PS3 runs a whole lot better than the equivalent PC rig ..

I keep hearing this, but why would any company make the least popular of all 3 consoles the lead platform for development. If fortunes don't change I'd expect even worse ports on the PS3.

Because of the mods, I think. Epic have said UT is all about user-generated content and the PSN is better suited to that than Xbox Live.

it always worries me how the vast majority of people are only concernedf with what is the most powerful. Even looking back a generation most people loved the ps2 but that was the least powerful of that generation. The gfx will always be surpassed, I think everyone forgets how we all oohed and aahed at last gen screen shots, now they look slly.

But frankly so what. If a game is good it will never matter, its more about the style than the cheer pixel count of the gfx that affect a game.

So in summary, stop worrying about the hardware, just worry if the cash to get the system is reflected in the quality of the games that will be available to you.

Not really. A platform is only as good as its games and the PC doesn't really have anything, nor has it had much in the last 30 months.
Well that sounds incredibly biased.

A PC is still the best format when it comes to quality and features, sure you're gonna possibly have to fiddle at times but hey it's part of the fun. Well it can be unless the problem is not fixable which usually is not the case.
