briefly OT

Don't worry, I think this thread is in dire need of an interesting discussion :p

if I use OPC they will give me half the money for the new block, costing around 12k all in,

 Flaming 'ell. Was it ever established why the old engine died?

if I go third party it's variable rates (5-9k) but the car will never get an OPC warranty again as a result.

Pfft, who needs warranties!? What else could possibly go wrong... :D

either way I have 0k so it's all vaporware discussions anyway :D

Well, i would be happy to pledge £2 towards your "Get-my--Damn-Porsche-Back-on-the-Road" fund. ;)

Total repairs so far is a new Exhaust (because the std one isn't stainless and it was rusting) new battery (old one wasn't holding its charge) and a coil pack.

That's been it.

Tax bill halfed compared with the VXR, as did the tyre bill (17s vs 19s)

Petrol consumption averages about 28mpg average, compared with about 23mpg average on the VXR.

3 sets of tyres (2 front & 1 Rear) its been through in the last 18 months, which is about average.

All in All very pleased. But mines an ex fleet car rather than ex police. Got all the invoices and paperwork from its first owner. Went through about 18 pairs of continental contisports fitted by Kiwkfit lol. Its now on 136k.

That actually sounds very reasonable. Do you do mostly motorway driving though? I would love some form of T5 Volvo (or a Focus ST) but would be very put off due to the fact I only ever do urban driving, and the economy would be quite the departure from what I'm getting atm (42mpg).

Type of car: Ford Fiesta Ghia (Mk.5)

Previous owner did all the miles as a rep. Put 116k miles in just over 4 years on it.

I've put another 20k miles on it, but its taken me 20 months to do it.

My commute to work is at 5:30am so no traffic about and the roads are nearly all 40mph semi rural. Then i get on the M621 ring road to finish my journey into leeds.
