what car for around 15k?

To be honest if you are only getting £15k to spend on a car becuase you are 'running into' some money soon, and it's not your usual level of spare cash, then dont spend £15k on a car at this age.

Instead, spend £7500 on a car and invest £7500. You can still get some awesome cars for £7.5k. Don't waste a £15k bonus/inheritance/whatever on a car. Save the £15k cars until you can replace £15k without issue.

S2000, pick one up for about £13 k and spend the rest on insurance. You won't regret it.

Or be sensible and do what Fox says.. but you only live once right?

Absolutely spot on the money, again, Mr Fox.

You only live once but you live for 80 years. £7.5k buys great cars. £15k buys great cars which will be £7.5k cars in a year or three anyway :)

I'm not suggesting he buys a £500 Fiesta. You can buy some awesome and rapid stuff for £7.5k.

Agreed, but I would get a nice car now while you can enjoy it. Once older, I doubt you can look as cool in a S2000 or even feel the need to race around the place in a tough ride.

Will petrol sportcars be around in 50 years+ ? or will it just be electric scooter things which have no vrrroooooom!

Saying that, I speak from experience when I say invest it. My parents would rather see me invest it in property/ISA's than burn it on a car. :(

Suggestions please Fox? :)

I am not using all my money on a car. I will have plenty left over to go into savings along with what i already have.

Suggestions please Fox? :)

£7500:

BMW 328Ci
Toyota Supra 3.0 Non Turbo
Nissan Skyline
Honda Integra Type R DC2
Clio 182
Honda Civic Type R
Impreza Turbo

£10,000:

Mini Cooper S
BMW 330Ci/i Sport
Honda S2000

The choices are endless. £15k wont suddenly buy you stuff miles better than that lot.

Vote for the JCW S, went down to 1320's Nr Cambridge today, mate got 241bhp on the RR...

I know what I would buy for 7.5k at that age. Supra TT, Celica T sport (potentially my next car), Honda Civic Type R, Subaru impreza turbo. :)

But for £15k... S2000, Z4, 330Ci, Lotus Elise etc

Ok so some of those fell into the same as Fox suggested... *thank god I am on the right track!*

Thanks :)

Out of the 7.5k bracket i quite like the clio and type r and all of the 10k bracket. The S2000 are nice but whether i could live with one for every day use im not sure.

The 350Z is still tempting me too but of course will be slightly more.

Suprised you like everything in the £10k bracket but not the 328Ci.

Now, you know I love the 3 Series Coupes but the 330Ci for £15k is NOT twice as good as a £7.5k 328Ci. They are in most respects the same.

You wont get the cool Sports bumpers on a 328Ci but you will be left with thousands and thousands of spare pounds some of which you could use to just retrofit them. Becuase a 328Ci with Sport front and rear bumper, detangoed, looks identical to a 330Ci Sport. And isn't THAT much slower.

£15k would buy a very useable e39 M5, £10k and you have to be very brave to expect a good one, - thats one unusual exception to your otherwise good rule. (Not that an e39 M5 is very practical for this thread, ho hum! )
