im thinking of upgrading my graphics card but i dont want to spend too much, something under £150 would be ideal, i know there is no point buying anything high end as i would have to upgrade the rest of the system to get the most out of it

can anyone recommend a card that would be good for this system & wont need me to upgrade my psu? if there is nothing in my price range then could you tell me how much id would have to spend?

AMD Athlon™ 64 FX-57 Processor
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX Extreme Edition 256MB
SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
Thermaltake Purepower 560W Psu

mostly games, i get a bit of stuttering in games like oblivion and age of empires 3 with my current system so i was thinking that a new card might sort out my problems

x1950pro is a really good card but i'm not sure if its worth upgrading to over your 7800 gtx gamer edition. It would be better but not by a huge amount. 2900pro might be a good move but goes just over your £150 budget. Not really much in between.

i think id be better with the 2900pro after looking, they seem to be a lot cheaper than i thought, would my current psu be ok with one of those you think?

Is this your PSU?. http://www.xoxide.com/purepower.html.

If it is then I have the exact same one in my rig (had it through a system or two) and will find out on Tuesday if it will power the X2900Pro (also overclock). I'm just hoping that it doesn't kill other parts as I've had an overclocked Gigabyte board die on me taking a stick of my old pair of Corsair and an MSI board half die (no BIOS save, so no OC :() through no Surge protector :o (got one now).

My PSU shouldn't be powering my rig as it stands and a couple of people think the extra power of the 2900 will be too much but here's to hoping :p. If my PSU does run and overclock it then I will still replace it as soon as possible though as I don't like the idea of running borderline.

Of course I will :). I'm the same about replacing a PSU but with your next one you can make it a modular one and just place the cables that you need. I have a m8's 700watt to use for a few weeks if the Thermaltake can't do the job. Roll on Tuesday morning :D.

thanks :D i bet tomorrow cant come quick enough for you, do you know if our psu has the correct connectors for this card? i only just found out that it needs to run off 2 power plugs instead of one but im pretty sure that when i fitted my psu it only had one with the kind of connector that goes in to the card
