Hi guys.

Just about to purchase this rig.. Haven't upgraded for about 3 years so time to treat myself.

After all day deliberation (and with thanks to CarlD, FP7909 and especially Rippling - enjoying the schnapps??) here it is:

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) -
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
Enermax Liberty 620W ELT620AWT ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1950 XT-X SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR4 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)

So the question is, what is the best case??

There are a number of options, but I won't prejudice the answers by quoting them now....

Tell me what you think

ta,

Whitey.

You know 5 minutes ago that was top of my list. Then a few minutes later it slid down to number 322... Weird..... That's the progress of technology I suppose.

Thanks for the offer though.

Any other suggestions??

None..... Go for it... The one i just chose is £150 ish...... I keep my stuff for a long time so worth the expense...... Think £150 is a good limit tho.... Would prefer cheaper but see what the consensus is.

thx Squiffy. is that the CM 810 or the 830 case m8...

Can't seem to find the 810........... Not on OcUK anyways.

U know this morning I was nearly buying the spec as you m8. only difference was the 4800+ processor and a ATI X1950XTX.....

Amazing what a day makes........

May I suggest a Lian Li V1000 or a PC-101.

That's huge.... Although I kinda hvae my eye on the 830 version..

What do u think?/

Whitey...

Nah the 830 is rubbish mate. The LL 1000 looks alright, but the BTX layout could cause problems with certain boards (those with heatpipes ie Asus A8N premium) As the heatpipe is going downwards, which isn't ideal. So for those boards I would use ATX. I like the Stackers module options, you can fit loads of optical drives, or use two or three 4 in 1 modules and have a rack of hard drives. 3 hard drives in each module, total of three modules= 9 hard drives, plus one optical drive. You might be able to fit 4 in each module, not sure.

Old photo, missing the Ninja. With the Ninja a 12cm doesn't fit onto the door (with a akasa 12cm to 8cm housing)

Well i wasn't expecting that comment. The 810 is just too big for my desktop. Nice bit of kit but the base system i hvae at the moment will be fine for the 4 HDD's that i hvae got. It runs near enough 24/7 and has done for 2-3 years.. Bless..

Why is i the 830 rubbish?? Surely it's the same as yours only slightly smaller...

in which case the LL1000 is a good bet or maybe the pc101 which looks lovely..

let me know... I'm eager to roder.

remember the spec i've chosen is:

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) -
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
Enermax Liberty 620W ELT620AWT ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
ATI Radeon X1950 XT-X ***Crossfire/Master Edition*** SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR4 (PCI-Express)
Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)

You're a top geezer.

Whitey.

The 830 is similar in size, but the original stackers are better imo. That mobo has heatpipe design, so really I wouldn't get BTX case (BTX has the motherboard facing right, not left as normal ATX). Heatpipes work by having the fins higher than the contact plate, with BTX the fins will be below the contact plate. Heat rises, so the heatpipe design efficiency won't be as good. Your motherboard.

I've worked with various cases, and I can tell you now I would rather have "too much room" than not enough. Worked with MATX, ATX mini and midi towers, ATX full towers. Go for full tower, they're only slightly taller but fitting components is a joy compared to midi towers.

The LL 1000 are massive too, look at the HD bay.

Why to buy a Lian Li case:

1. They are all 100% aluminium.
2. They have a range of cases to suit everyone's needs.
3. Their build quality is second to none.

Get a Lian Li and you will never want to buy another make. Seriously.

Doesn't come supplied with case fans, add £20 for two 12cm fans. No HD isolation at all. Plastic front too. Should be bundled with fans really just to get you going.

Apart from that looks like a good large midi tower case. Would like to see pictures of a Eclipse with all components. Is there direct airflow over the hard drives? (and how many fit into the bottom front cage, the one with airflow?) I can't tell from pictures but it looks like only two 3.5" bays have airflow from the front fan.
