I can't believe the amount of people who claimed to have an Atari 2600 then go on to mention a dozen more machines without mentioning the two classics that came after it.

The Mattel Intellivision and the Colecovision.
Those three machines nearly ended my marriage between 80 to about 83.

To my knowledge, a console is purely a games machine. The C64 was known as a HOME COMPUTER, like a Sinclair Spectrum, Commodore Amiga, or Atari ST. The C64 had a keyboard, you could program software on it, you could run office applications on it, you could add floppy disk drives, a monitor and a printer etc. I owned one during the late 80's at the peak of its popularity. It was probably the first computer I ever owned, and I dont remember me or any of my mates who owned one EVER referring to it as a console....and all I ever did on it was play games...how ironic.

That’s a good point but mine was used as a Games machine but my mum did use it for typing and stuff but why have they been known as the first console in many gadget programs on TV.

Like you said all you ever did on it was play games??

The Xbox 360 has chat soon video chat and DVD playback? Also there’s going to be a HD-DVD add-on and I think I head news of a keyboard for chatting?

So in a way this is not just a gaming machine?

But it’s still known as a console.

Just slightly OT but do any of you have the GC tool for opening the cases?
The purpleness of mine is annoying me and i was thinking of giving it a paint job ;)

Cant you not just use a pen ;) (a melting one)

You can buy new cases I think or was I dreaming....
 
Yeah you can get new cases, just that the screws use some weird shape, and I can't be bothered importing one lol.
Although just found a site that does skins for them fairly cheap, I think my PSP and gamecube are getting a makeover :D

Used to have an XBOX but there wasn't really anything exclusive to XBOX that I was interested in (whereas I had GTA/MGS etc for the PS2), so one had to go.
