What could be done to stop bots for the 50 series launch?

I really couldn't care less anymore. GPU's are so expensive and overpriced these days I can't get excited by any new launches. I also don't understand why people need to buy as soon as they are launched either. It's not as if the existing card stops working or is suddenly unable to play games. Wait a while and the deals will start to appear rather than pay high launch prices.

There is so many things you could do; like one credit card per GPU, or GPU can only be purchased in store, or GPU can only be purchased with valid ID for identification to make sure it's one GPU per person, only people with 1000+ forum posts can purchase GPU, raffles

This. But do retaillers really care? They sell their product for x amount, doesn't matter to who unless you're a small local business.

Maybe a certain number reserved for proven members.

Problem with bots is they will just keep buying to control the supply and push up prices. Initial pricing may not make that much difference.

1 Card per customer and everyone gets a number when they order then that number is put in to a random lottery draw. you could even live stream the draw :D

It worked very well. 4090's were readily available on launch.

Sure, specific flagship cards such as 4090 Strix were very limited - though this is always the case.

They absolutely were not in the UK. Sold out 10 minutes, OCUK came back online 2 hours later and was sold out on about 10 minutes as well.

I don't understand this need to buy the instant the product appears.

You not remembering all the 3 month long where's my EVGA complaint threads and people asking for their position in the queue posts of eras gone?

The admissions of only ever having 30 cards in at RRP per brand. The subsequent 2 months of no stock baring clown cards. Nvidia pricing holding firm on all cards until 2/3 months before the next gen.

Pre bots it used to just make sense buying something on release day for Nvidia/Intel. This time round I can't see the AI-boys being interested in 16gb 5080s and below. Can't see any reason for scalpers to be interested. Who knows about the 5090.
