what could GTA4 borrow from it's clones

Well not really seeing as it's been several years since Rockstar released a good GTA game and we know nothing about GTA4.

you say this all the time .....

every gta games has been good

they wouldnt continue to become best sellers if they had made crap games for several years

the clones arent even as good as gta3 nevermind the newer ones.

Great logic.

Popularity doesn't equal quality.

Maybe you think they're great games, but I think they're all the same and get boring quickly.

Popularity does equal quality in some cases though. People vote with their wallets so if the masses were bored with GTAIII or Vice City then San Andreas wouldn't have been such a huge success would it?

Fair enough if it's not your bag, but it doesn't mean it's not a damn good game just because you dont like it!

I loved the PS2 specific games, and the PSP specific games - but the 'Stories' ports to the PS2 are some of the worst ports I've ever played on. The slow FPS and the hideous texture/building popup could have easily been sorted for the PS2, but Rockstar didn't bother to do that.

As a lot of people are new to the GTA series nowadays, many of them will have had their first taste of GTA on one of these hideous abberations to computer gaming - and it certainly won't give them a good impression of the series as a whole.

And what's so great about any of the GTA games since Vice City?

What's so different about each one that makes them worth buying?

then what made vice city so good to you when its no different from gta3

they're worth buying because they're enjoyable games with lots of hours worth of great play and good stories too

Not a lot really. It was just more-of-the-same with some obvious improvements and a new setting which made it worth playing. After that though it started to lose its appeal.

It's not as if Rockstar have been doing anything special with each new release, it's just same formula over and over...

erm... well yeah, the same 3rd person free roaming game which is what GTA is all about!!! not with you on this one mate, what's your next comment "god dang, Half-Life 2 is a first person shooter!!"

IMO Vice City was a huge improvement over GTAIII whilst not changing the award winning, best selling gameplay element and likewise San Andreas was a huge improvement over the other two for the same reasons. There was just soooooooo much to do in San Andreas as it had loads of mini games built in - maybe if you got bored of it quickly then you didn't give it enough time... either that or maybe it just isnt your cup of tea, which is fair enough but then why bother posting?

Vice City had the best non custom made soundtrack ever as far as games go imo.

I didn't like all the rap, p daddy gangsta' nonsense in san andreas really, for me Vice City was the best of the three 3d games.

The point is that they did very little to improve each game.

Adding new vehicles and minigames to a game is not a 'huge' leap.

I gave San andreas plenty of time, it added nothing to the gameplay except minute things and in the end I gave up because

a) the missions were just the same thing over and over
b) the stupid 'gangsta' cutscenes ****** me off

agreed, the soundtrack to Vice City was sublime. I have never owned a soundtrack from film or game before but I can quite happily say I have the box set fro Vice City :)

The gangsta theme wasn't the reason I hated the game, the fact it was boring is why I hated it.

They totally overplayed the gangsta theme though, probably so it appeals to all these kids who watch that crap they show on MTV base.

It's quite obviouse you don't like the series, so why come into a thread where we're talking about what the next one will entail and start shouting about the way you dont like it?

I'm not trying to be confrontational, I just think you should move along is all!

Ditto, never bothered about film soundtracks because usually theres only 1 or 2 songs that interest me, but the box set just has so many songs that bring back so many good memories. I mean come on, driving along in a harley getting chased by the cops listening to twisted sister 'i wanna rock' or doing a getaway mission listening to 'atomic' by blondie or driving along the beachfront with the neon lights listening to some cool slow electro beats...

I also agree with Chriss though, I think the gangsta theme was a bit overdone. AFAIK there wasn't really that much a variety of gangs, I can only remember the rapper type ones, no italian mob for example.

Take mafia for example, the cars were slow andnot many people appreciate that, or the music and the restricted choice of weapons but the way it captured mob wars in the 1930's was brilliant. I don't think the modern gang wars are as glamerous as those, or as the ones in the 80's which have been glorified thanks to movies like Scarface and Miami Vice TV series.

So many cheesey moments in Vice City, I love it.

What are you talking about?

I think GTA3 and VC were great games.

You still haven't addressed the issue of what Rockstar have been doing different with each new release, or failing to accept that each game is a rehash of the last.

I've been giving reasons as to why I don't think there have been any good GTA games recently, while you come in here getting all defensive over your boyfriend San Andreas without actually addressing my points.
