The prospect of relying on it day in day out and expecting it to do 1000+ miles per week without so much as me even ever looking under the bonnet is scary. I'd imagine its parts costs are even more extreme than the S-class too, which is hardly a cheap car to run in itself.
Lovely car but not really suitable.
I want a car where i never see the engine, i think ive seen the S's engine about 3 times over 15k miles so far, thats how it has to be.
This one really depends on what you do for a living actually, and the nature of your customers. In the corporate world a cheap car can damage your credibility with many people, stupid though that may be, it is a fact in many sectors. Pull up for dinner with a C club member of a multi national in a £10K rep mobile or old banger and you'd be amazed how attitudes change. People, at this level, take comfort from dealing with people who they percieve to be like them more often than not. I have seen many examples of this over the years and yup, I know its stupid.

Well, they have..
The 9-3... a rebadged Vectra
The 9-3 convertible... a convertible Vectra (WHY?!)
And..... the 9-5... a bigger Vectra!
Indeed, if they were awsome, we would see lots. We see none, so that means, by the law of the land Saab = fail.
I work in IT, though I am not a contractor, and I have loads of mates in IT Contracting and I can think of 2 in GT3's, 1 in a 430, and several in M's of various forms.
Many of them also have B cars mind

Really, they are. We've got the 9-5 which was not competitive when it came out and was nowhere near as good as either the E39 5 or the previous model A6. BMW and Audi have long since replaced those cars yet Saab.... simply keep adding tat to the 9-5 to pretend it isn't ancient. It's only party peice is the epic midrange acceleration in the 250bhp version.
Other than that, its just 4.7 metres of FWD based failiure.
Then we've got the 9-3, the old model of which simply looks.... like a Saab 900. And the newer model is like a 3 Series, IS200, C Class or A4 only... nowhere near as good.
Why would you chose a Saab unless you purposefully wanted to go out of your way to be 'different'? You wouldnt pick one for their ability.
it's true, they've been rubbish since GM bought 50% of the shares in 1990.. then they just got worse then they were completely bought out in 2000..
the 99 and 1980s 900 turbos were awesome
the 9000s weren't bad, but the build quality was a bit suspect, but the blown engines were still great
nowadays, apart from the seats, they are complete crap. which is a shame as saabs used to be fantastic

How about a Lexus LS430? Plenty around for the price, comes fitted with a full 3-piece suite consisting of: 2 large leather lounging chairs and a 3 seater sofa. Seem to be looking at a 54 - 05 plate for your money but in 2 years that's dropped around £40k!!! Lot of car for your pennies.
Oh, Saab failed once GM took over. They seem to have invvested less in their range of cars over the last 5 years than British Leyland!!
